UPDATE: So what was supposed to be a day's job took more than a week and for something so stupid.

Here is the details, took the car to the dealer to do the 120K service in the morning, dealer called in the afternoon to say everything is back together except for the radiator. According to them the neck for the upper hose is broken and there is less than ¼" of the plastic so its too short for the hose to clamp on and hold. I tried to convince them that if it was fine before than it should be fine for now, and I do intend to replace the radiator in the near future, they wouldn't budge.

So I ordered a new radiator from Z1, I got the 2 row CSF unit for peace of mind, after 5 days of waiting it arrived. However, dealer calls again to say it was the wrong one because the fan shroud won't bolt on, I called Z1 and they claim it is the right one and my mistake was taking it to the dealer :squint:.

It was a good thing that they said the dealer can call them if they need any help, and so I told the dealer to call Z1. Now we are waiting for Z1 to reply after sending pics of the radiator and showing that the shroud won't fit.

Seriously, NEVER take a Z32 to a dealer, EVER.

Well, I needed to do the 120K service and from searching this site I underood that I should take it to either the dealer or a shop that specializes in Z32s.

After all the hassle and calls the dealer worked out a way to install the radiator with the help of Z1, so I got my Z back  .
A couple of notes: it seems that the timing belt was changed (I was told it was done @150K), the tech said there was no significant wear on it, but the seals were leaking.
The crank pulley was changed so the new belts didn't fit, I don't know which brand though.

Now that I have the car back I'll try and clean the IACV and see what that does to the thumping "plumping" sound. It might take a while though.

Glat to hear you have her back and on the road again!

To explain Anton's comment regarding the dealers, they often are not "up" on the various details of the Z32 especially regarding modifications as the Z32 had a lot of proprietary parts, and their mechanics usually are not experienced with them because they don't require a lot of maintenance early in their lives and many people have them as a 2nd/3rd car- it all adds up to lack of contact for the mechanics. The dealers can service the simple stuff and be a source for some harder to find parts, but for actual work and especially troubleshooting you definitely need to have a Z specialist or be DIY aware, and be ready for research and doing all of the legwork to tie everything together with your sources or repair people.
I personally use the dealers as a source for oil filters and some other basic maintenance bits, but otherwise if I don't have a preference already through this site I use my guy Doug at Fairlady Motors to either refer me to sources for parts, or have him do it all to ensure that all of the bases are covered.
In all other cases where changes are being made to the OEM systems, basically I see it as completely up to me to search out all of the details and be ready for modifications and/or more things to make things work right consistently, since nothing much goes in the first time without issues in a Z32...
