Post

Hey all just got a 2008 altima coupe 2.5s last week and I'm having a problem with the headlights. A little background on the car: It seems to be lowered an inch or two I'm not really sure though. Injen cold air intake, custom black billet grille, 245 40ZR19 tires sitting around 19" Super Hiro Axis rims. In the back seat I found custom blackout tail lights and headlights, the dealer had ordered and put on what appear to be stock headlights and tail lights. They will be going on e-bay shortly.

I've tried to adjust the headlights up as high as they will go by turning the set screws on top of the lamps but they seem to still shine really really low, almost dangerous when driving at night. I can bearly see 50 feet in front, I'm afraid I might run over something and not see it till it's already up on my hood. On the stock lamps is there a shim of some sorts that the dealer may have not put on or is it just the way they are.

Would HID's fix this by shining further down the road? I know HID's are brighter and shine out further to the sides but will they shine further down the road like high beams do?

thanks in advance all that answer

~Adam

HID's will not really help in that aspect... they are typically for aesthetic prowess. And even so- you need your headlight cups to be aligned just as much as a halogen setup would need.

First thing I would do is grab a large phillips (x) screwdriver and turn the alignment screw as far clockwise (down) as possible. your headlight cup SHOULD click back in, then go counterclockwise to pull the cup up. If that doesn't work- take it bak to the dealer and have them look at it. or- snag a pic of your custom made ones and show us :) and use them :)

+1 for me too. HIDs have made a world of difference for me, i wish i would have taken a before an after picture on how much it illuminates my street (which has no streetlights)

You know if your issue is with the tilt of the headlight then HIDs arent going to help you. I mean, you'll get more light output but its going to be pointed in the same direction it is now. If you have messed with the green screw with no help I would check and see that the actual bulb is mounted into the assembly correctly. I had a problem like this with my old Durango, idiots snapped off a few tabs when they installed the bulbs and they didnt sit straight in the assembly.

which is exactly what i was trying to say^^^^^

if the headlight assembly isnt aligned, your HID's will still not do much.

Just wanted to say thanks. That "click" that I was missing worked perfectly.

I don't have them on but they are the complete light housing and they are the blacked out lenses. I have brand new lights on it now and not going to put on the black lights. When I get the time they will be going up for sale.
