Thought I would say hello... just bought our 1st Infiniti, a Silver 2005 Q45 with 35k miles. Only issue is a driver mirror that does not move on its own. Dealer is going to fix it under warranty... car drives like new, dealer confirmed it has been well maintained and has had all service work performed.

Drives like new TO YOU who has never owned an Infiniti before!

The point is every USED CAR has defects that were not repaired because the previous owner let them slide or was not sensitive or well educated on automotive engineering.

Your everything warranty expires at 4 years and 59,999.9 miles unless you purchase and extended warranty. Don't confuse 6 year/70k powertrain warranty with the other one.

I'll bet I can find dozens of things not in spec on a 4 year old vehicle.

Watch out for uncovered wear and tear on rubber parts [there are hundreds], shocks, brakes, etc.

Be sure to have dealer change oil every 90 days so they can examine the car for things they can charge Nissan to replace at least until the 70k warranty expires.

Make friends with senior technican and pay him [cash] to find things to replace and charge to Nissan. Understand precisely how dealership works.Service Manager [salaried], Service writers [salespeople who sell you services on commission], and technicans who get paid $18-$25 per shop hour billed to somebody.

of course you'll find many things wrong with his car... you work at a mechanic shop! Let me send my 99 to you and spend 10k in repairs on a nissan. NOPE!

I don't work at a mechanic shop. The use of the word is grossly offensive.I have a BSEE and 2 Masters degrees in technology and Finance. I'm sure the people at T3 would require you call them TECHNICANS or at least charge you extra for being a blasphemer.

The point is you are supposed to have a technolgy expert examine any car you think of buying so you can use the faults found to better haggle the price or at least get a list of things fixed before you buy the vehicle.Rather than discover them later on the side of the road or worse find out about them after the warranty expires.

Dealerships don't really like warranty work as much as people think since they must accept a labor dicount in hours from Nissan. The employees hate it because they get less hours which cuts into their take home pay compared to customer paid work.

Employees are punished by assigning them warranty work above the average distribution.

Welcome to NICO and congratulations on your purchased.

Get a printout of the service history and buy the extended warranty. It will come handy. 05-06Q has fewer bugs than the early 02-04Q.

Congrats! The '05/'06 are pretty trouble free. Just keep an eye out for hub bearings wearing out prematurely, dash board cracking/splitting, malfunctioning of the cd changer, driver's seating movement, inaccurate gas gauge, ballast failure, oil consumption, glove box rattle and a few other things. Besides that you should have a very reliable car.

I went ahead and had them change the oil and fileter plus air filter. They the transmission had already been changed and the injectors had been done as well... wanted me to let them flush the brake lines cause the fluid was corroded! I wondered if he had ever heard the term hydroscopic...(absorbs water) They refused to reprogram the 2nd remote the used car dealer that sold me the car gave me... So it looks like I need to find another dealer or maybe buy one off ebay. In any case wife loves the car! Drives like new although I keep thinking I can here a low pitched whining noise... I am planning on buying the extended warranty.

Thanks again for the welcome to the forum... after having the car for a week it is easy to understand why all of you owners are raving about the car(and brand). Ours is Silver, I have been trying to find a copy of the original dealers broshure... no luck so far. Also does anyone know much about the dealers programing process for the keyfobs? The dealer that did the oil change told me the imobilizer chip was missing in the extra keyfob I was given, however when I opened it up, it looks just like the working keyfob. I don't know if I was given a line to get me to fork out $500 for a new one or if it really is bad. I found them for $145 on ebay... another dealer quoted me $100 to reprogram the one I had(did not tell them what the other dealer told me).

So I am kinda stuck trying to figure out if I should buy the one off ebay or have the other dealer take a shot at it.

Well it looks like I kind of answered part of my question... I took apart the bad keyfob s well as the working keyfob, in the back of the cover you remove, on the working keyfob there is a small piece of metal looking piece, where as on the non_working one... that is missing. Now if I had only opened it up before I took it in I would know if they had screwed with it. Oh well I guess I will be buying one on ebay.

Wow Paul, thanks for all the info. As I said above my non_working remote appears to be missing a chip. I guess if I buy one off ebay I will have them forward picturs from inside the case to make sure the chip is there. I can then try the method you gave me to program it. Thanks again all.
