Hi all, I Just purchased a 2008 M35X. When I press the start button and the mirrors/steering/seats start to move from their resting place to their memory settings there is a noise coming from the steering wheel area(I think). It sounds like a double clicking/ latch opening sorta noise for lack of a definitive explanation. I have had several cars with memory settings(including 2013 Nissan Pathfinder) and none of them makes any noise prior to moving. Any history of this? Anything to worry about? Thanks.

I turned off the option a long time ago. Although when I first bought the car it was on and it did not make any noises while moving, nor should it. I checked all infiniti TSBs for an 08 model year and found nothing related to steering column. If you want to continue using this feature I suggest a visit to the mechanic. Otherwise pre-adjust your settings and turn the feature off. It's in the main computer under settings convenience.

Are you writing about the entire memory feature(steering wheel, mirrors and seat) or are you saying just the steering wheel feature can be turned off?

Thank you for your comments.

You can turn off the steering wheel lift independently of the seat back. Go into settings and convenience.

I turned off the steering wheel movement but the clicking/unlocking noise still exists. It makes the noise before the mirrors/seats/st. wheel start to move. I guess I'll have to have it looked at. It doesn't bother me all that much but I'm afraid something is wearing out.

Thanks.

Sounds more like your side mirror is the issue. It may need to be reset. I think the procedure is either in your manual or in the FAQ here. I had a similar issue and it had to be replaced.

^ This, check your mirrors, if one mirror is at its max, the motor clicks...

Thanks for your answers. However the noise comes from somewhere in the dash in front of the driver. It happens right before any movement of any of the memory items.

Does the a/c or defrost come on automatically after the noise? If not, im at a loss and would have to hear it...

This may be a silly response, but I notice when I turn the car on and my gauge needles do the usual movement at start up, I can hear the needles make a "clicking sound". This may not be the clicking you are talking about.

Sounds like it could be one of you HVAC systems vent doors. Our cars have several different doors all controlled by motors. One is the air mix door which is found attached to the side of the heater unit for the drivers side and the passenger side is attached to the doorsill under the dash behind the blower motor assembly. The next is the intake door motor attached to the blower assembly found under the dash of the passenger side. There are two air mode motors one attached to the heater core controlling the drivers side air flow another attached to the side doorsill but is only visible with the blower assembly removed, controlling the passenger side. The final unit is also attached to the heater assembly and controls the single upper vent door. Any one of these could be making this noise. Start by setting the temp on the drivers side to 18 listen for that sound this could be the front air mix on the drivers side. Next set the passenger side to 18. Then turn on and off the upper vent. And finally slowly cycle through the different modes. Hopefully this will narrow down which one is defective. Unfortunately any of the drivers side units are a PITA to remove.

Thanks for the replies. Going to N Carolina(from Ohio) tomorrow but taking the '13 Pathfinder so I'll check the suggestions out next Tuesday. Thanks again.
