Hello all, just joined the Infiniti club here in the UK, but I did have a family member who used to own one so I'm semi-familiar with the brand. I own a 2015 Q70, but it's only occurred to me after purchasing it that I cannot simply swap out the screen and install Apple CarPlay. Are there any options for anyone living in the UK to acquire Apple CarPlay? I've been told that Grom is fairly inconsistent... are there any more stable routes?

What if I'm willing to sacrifice all the stock features and menus? As far as I can tell, the biggest sacrifice will be seeing the effects of pressing the climate control buttons, am I correct? The replaced system will have access to a reverse camera, sensors, Google maps and music through my phone... or am I missing something? Has anyone done this?

Also, the stock speakers are pretty weak... has anyone swapped them for aftermarket speakers? Any recommendations?

Thanks so much! Happy to join the club! :)

Welcome to the forum.

There are a few 'phone mirroring' conversations which have to do with CarPlay and Android Auto but I don't know if anyone has found a kit that works yet as it seems that most "Infiniti aftermarket smartphone modules" require a radio that has CF flash support and our cars don't have that.

Replacing the head unit is not possible unless you are an electrical engineer and can rewire the car. A LOT of stuff operates through the infotainment system.

Can't comment on the speaker stuff as I have the top of the line Bose system. It's not great but I have a rooted Android and am running Viper4Android which is an EXTREMELY powerful EQ.

I run my iPhone through the Bluetooth and it sounds great.

A lot of people don't know that Spotify, who I use for my music has an EQ which is a must and makes the system sound is real nice. I was a car audio freak in my youth and now not so much but I'm very impressed with the sound ands might add a single 10 or 12 for the deep bass.

Let us know what you do, I think there are some who have replace their speakers. So a search you should be able to find them.

Good luck
Andy

This question isn't really about connecting the audio from the phone to the car...it's about seeing what's on the phone on your screen. I was just in FL on business the first 3 days of this week and my rental Impala had Android Auto which worked beautifully. God I had the Infiniti navigation now and having to update it regularly.

I have this module earmarked for the holidays...I'm hoping this will allow me to mirror my phones Android Auto to my screen:

I remember ripping out my HU and found that most of the wiring, such as HVAC, is connected to the HU. So you're right, you'll most likely disable the climate controls. For example, I remember shorting the ACC fuse, and I was unable to access my climate controls.

I didn't do speakers, but I did add an after market 12" sub with aftermarket amp. The results are night and day. I highly recommend it!

I've pretty much decided that a really nice phone mount is the only real option.

Ya,

We are real screwed for upgrades. I do know what apple car play is but that's not an option without a total redo of the electronics. Just do some streaming and adjust the eq on what audio site you use. I was looking hard and heavy at doing a sub in the car just for that real low bass. One day maybe.

Good luck

I know there are some that did switch out the speakers. Not sure how good of a improvement it is.

The sad thing is my boss drives a barby jeep. I think it's the Renegade. It has apple car play, says what your texts are and you dictate your reply but Infiniti can't afford to do it on my $75,000 loaded M56xS.

Thanks

That technology didn't exist in 2013 I don't think.

I had a rental Impala last week which had it. It was great...but in 2011 (my year) it didn't exist. Hell, smart phones were pretty primitive in 2011 compared to what we have now lol. This is why so many people have bluetooth issues...the car is running firmware that works great with BT 1.0...but we're on like 4.0 now in 2018.

EDIT: CarPlay was released on 3/10/14...and it probably took car manufacturers another 6-12 months to put it into their first car.
EDIT2: Android Auto was released on 3/19/15.

EDIT3: THAT being said, there is no excuse for a 2016+ Q from not having it. That's BS.

Yeah, if they opened the gate for it being done, it could be done now and then it could be retrofitted. I’m willing to pay up to a grand to make it all work.

Regarding speakers, I decided against doing anything with them at the moment. Part of the problem is I live in the UK. Infiniti has only been here for a few years, and no one really knows what it is. Car fitters are scared to touch it. My options are few :(

Is there any update on this? I've heard that next year's model of the q70 will have apple carplay. Would it be possible to fit one of those head units in a 2015 model?

I believe 2019 and up Q70 already have CarPlay, would be interesting to know if us older cars and switch out the information computer or something to be able to get this feature
