I've had my coupe for a little over a week, the check engine light came on three days ago. I checked the gas cap, it still wouldn't go away. I took it to autozone to check what the problem was. They told me it was the gas cap. I though maybe it was a bad sensor until I put gas in yesterday and found this:

I'm missing that valve/flap that is covering the tank (I don't know what its called). I remember seeing it when I checked the gas cap. I think it fell in the tank . I check around the edges to see if maybe it got stuck, but didn't find anything. I'm going to take it in later this week. I would like if this could be a real serious problem so I can take ASAP, or can I wait until the weekend to take it. I don't know if I can get off work. I'm worried about the fumes catching on fire since I can smell gas when I take of the cap and about the piece of metal floating around in my tank. Can it clog or block anything? Thanks in advanced.

Other than this I've really enjoyed the car. I think I got a pretty good deal since it was the end of year sales event. Here are two pics of my car.

very nice choice in cars and welcome to nico. there isn't supposed to be a flap there on the 3.5's. i just went out and double checked mine so you don't have to worry about any piece of metal in your gas tank. if light stays on just take your car back up to the dealership. when your car is that new i wouldn't ever take it to auto zone and let them hook up there diag machine to it cause nissan would cover anything and everything that would relate to your check engine light and nissan will know more than the guy at autozone. hope you get it worked out and it's prolly just the sensor.

I had the same thing, but mine was from day one. It went away on it's own, though, and when I took it to the dealer, they checked it out and gave it back to me. I haven't had a problem since, though.

I'll be taking it in either Tuesday or Wednesday to find out exactly why the light is on. Thanks everyone.

I'm not an expert but I don't think you can drive a car for too long without oil.

I have been having this same issue. The first time I gave the benifit of the doubt that I may not have put the gas cap on properly. I called about it and the service guy said it could take up to 15 cold-to-hot starts! Well after 5 days it went away. It had reoccurred at least 5 times since then and the last few was after it reached below the 1/2 tank level and stayed on through the entire next tank only to go away the day I brought it in for it's first oil change. I was told I would have to schedule an appointment for this service. I just need to find time to schedule it.

I got my coupe with 46 pounds of air in the tires, i know that isnt as bad as not having oil but it was 14 pounds more than i was supposed to have and i was wondering why when i hit a bump it felt kinda hard!!!
