Love this car. Looked at many, drove many. Settled on this one knowing some susp. work is needed. Of course pocket is empty, wrong way to be with this car I know. Been reading posts here going back months. Again, I love this car, and want to slowly restore it to factory fresh ride. Has 132K on it and I plan to double that. Interior is perfect. No rips in leather, even drivers seat looks like some anorexic old lady slipped in and out of it. Everything works, but as I said the suspension may be suspect and I do not know the history of the car, even though I know it has had some collision in the rear. It rides fine, pulls alittle to the right, is very smooth but settles funny rolling over small hills. Luckily there are some very informed people on this board. I will learn alot here. I only paid 4K for it, so seeing dealers around here asking 8-10 I don't feel too bad. I will put money into it. I guess it's not as bad as a boat, that hole in the water that people throw money into.Hope I can find someone local. Thanks

PS I used to make wood kits for the dealers back in 1990. They loved us because it helped them do battle with Lexus. I have loved these cars ever since. I would rather have this car restored to its glory than any car on the road right now.

You chose a great car to restore, indeed. Great things can come with great prices however. I also own a 94' Q45a... which coincidentally is also having suspension troubles. I bought my Q for $2500 a year ago and have since completed all of the repairs on a nearly $10k repair bill, except the active suspension. I purchased new accumulators from texasoil. A fellow whom you will want to get in touch with; he will help you sort through your active suspension woes. Unfortunately for me, I didn't realize the system also had a leak... it's now - finally at the dealership again to have them tell me exactly where the leak is in the system. The dealership will charge you up the ole' poop chute to have them fix it. If you like saving thousands of dollars buy recharged accumulators instead of new. As well, if you would like the service manual for your car, e-mail a member of this board named "elwesso". In short, he's the man and will hook you up ;) . To determine if there is anything else wrong with the suspension system you can run a self diagnostic:

=================1) with the car shut down, transmission in P, turn the key to 'on' do not crank. 2) within 10 sec of key ON, turn the N/H switch from N to H and back 10 times, stopping in N

First series are 10's, second series is 1's5 followed by 5 is "55" which means electricals are fine.

Full Travel = 5"If your accumulators are in need of replacement you'll have a harsher ride with less travel. =================

If you have any more questions, post them up here and one of NICO's real guru's will give you a helping hand.

Keith is a great resource for accumulators. Also, probably worth a trip down to Jerry Tucker in San Diego. http://www.jerrytucker.net

YEah, thanks for the heads up. I knew I would be looking at some big bucks down the road, if not sooner. There are no tell tale signs of leakage from any part of the car. And everything works. Every speaker, window, you name it, systems seem so very well preserved. It's charcoal with the gray interior with not a single rip or even slight abrasion. Even the side of the drivers seat, that cover that always kinks and splits, is perfect. It seems to have spent little time in the sun. I could not pass it up. And now I embark on that long costly journey of restoration. A journey without end I know.I had my tires balanced and rotated. I noticed as I looked at the left rear suspension, when the tire was off, a canister with what seemed to be a taped off tube. I have no idea what I am looking at yet but will when I get my FSM. Also the left front compresses easily but the right front is stiff. That may account for a wallowing set. I am an old Jaguar/Nissan general foreign car mechanic and love to tinker. I have rebuilt many exotics, but that was in my youth. With 4 kids, money will be tough to set aside for this car. But it runs well and is my primary transport. Happily. I love big 4 door hot rods. This reminds me of my 95 Impala SS, but the Q is so much better.

So, as to the original question. Are there any HONEST, non dealer, actsus friendly shops in the Anaheim/So Ca area that someone could recommend? I'm not going to recount all my dealer woes on this thread, but hey, I just don't trust 'em. I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable guys on this forum have seen a consult diagnosis, yes? What exactly can it tell you? Does is actually activate each wheels actsus as if it were working?I'd love to hear.

If I were as close as you are to Jerry Tucker in Miramar, I wouldn't bother trying for someone closer!

No doubt... 90 miles for competent Q service is not too much to drive! I consider myself lucky to be in a relatively comfortable 3 hour driving radius of T3 in Atlanta.

Jerry Tucker knows Q45's. He does a lot of swaps to standard suspension--which is the way to go if someone has put antifreeze in the active system reservoir. He is fully competent to install my recharged accumulators of course.

Refilled my resevoir with 1 liter(I guess it's a liter) of active fluid. Everything worked well for a while. Then it all came out again from somewhere in the left front. It was nice when it was pumping around though. A ride I want to return to soon. My quest lol.
