Just bought it last weekend....37k miles. AutoCheck and Carfax confirm, as well as the previous owner who put 12k on the car in 4 years. Had to replace the battery(bad cell so it wouldn't hold a charge) and afterwards the sunroof is doing the annoying sporadic movement from button pushes. I've searched and found about 3 different Reset procedures including the one in the owner's manual, but none of them have worked. The tracks are clean and well greased, so I don't think it is a binding issue yet the motor is not smooth and consistent as it moves the glass in either direction. It was just fine before the new battery. Had the battery replaced - while I watched - at a local auto parts store (it's free...why not let them do the work?). They connected a constant power supply thru the OBDII port which I had hoped would eliminate any sunroof or window resets. No such luck. If the motor is going south, how hard is it to drop the headliner and replace?

Did you hold the sunroof close switch in the closed position for a slow count to 10?

Also try opening it all the way then hold the switch in the open position for a slow count to 10 and repeat while closing. You'll have to keep pressing the button until it's completely open, glass inside the car and wide open. Then repeat when closed.

I would make that a really slow 10 count. Recently disconnected my battery and had to reset windows and sunroof. Thought I had held the switch in the closed position long enough, but when I went to use the sunroof, it was doing that move only about 1/2 an inch for each press. Soooo, did the reset procedure again, but held the switch for a pretty long time, such that my arm was getting tired - lol that worked.

I agree...holding the switch in the open/closed position for an extended period should do the trick...

it worked for me when I had to also reset things....

Well, I have tried again and held the switch at both ends of travel for 30 seconds but still not taking. I think it might be the actual motor showing it's age...when it attempts to slide all the way the movement is labored and jerky, not smooth and steady as one would expect, to the point where it stops. Then pushing the switch will elicit a click at the switch but zero movement of the glass unless I wait about 5 or more seconds and re-push the switch. I've read elsewhere that some of the motors have a safety switch that will trip whenever there is too much current flow. Sort of an anti overheat fail safe switch. I think at this point...with winter upon us...I'll just consider it inoperable until such time I feel like dropping the headliner to test the switch and the voltage to the motor itself.
Other than that I just love this car. I came out of a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 with a Procharger D1 on it. Zero to sixty in 3.6 seconds in a 5,000 lb brick was fun but I got the itch to get something more docile and fuel efficient. 20MPG is a huge improvement over 12MPG...lol. Going to take the M on a road trip with the wife and son at Thanksgiving...something that was just not enjoyable in the Jeep. Thanks for the help on the sunroof issue!

that's a major switch :bigthumb:

I've always liked the Jeep SRT8 models...lots of torque! A buddy of mine had the Chevy Trailblazer SS, but never did any mods to it.... both fun toys, but I prefer the Jeep SRT8...

You know that you can tune your M45 in order to up the HP/TQ  Uprev is a good source for tuning Infiniti's.

While it certainly could be the motor, it could also be as simple as the tracks needing lubricated. I feel like someone had to do that on this forum once and posted some info, but I'd be hard pressed to find it. Nonetheless, I'd recommend looking into it before swapping the motor.

I initially was thinking the same, but even when the glass is popping up and down to "vent" it has some hesitation and general rough movement. I would think that the tracks don't come into play when simply moving up and down. Besides, the tracks look REALLY clean and well lubricated. I'm not really sweating it as i can live without it for a while.

I had the same problem with my sunroof, and it turned out to be the motor. Luckily, it was covered under my Elite extended warranty. No idea how much it would cost to repair without the warranty.
