I'm a proud owner of a brand new 2006 350z. My confussion really set in when time came to meet with F & I guy. I was totaly amazed when I was quoted to price to extend my factory warranty from 3 year 36,000 miles to a bumper to bumper plan of 72 month or 100,000 mile plan. The price was around $3500, does anyone know if this is a fair price? I have no idea, for all I know this could be a extremly high price. Please Help! Thanks!

welcome to nico!I personally never buy any add on warrany for anything. Best buy tried to sell me a $10 warranty on a $20 phone. There is a reason they sell these service plans on everything. It's because they are mostly profit for the retailer, the retailer gets a fatty commision on each warranty sell and the warranty company takes a calculated risk that they will still come out ahead even after paying the fatty comission. I'd steer clear. If you maintain the car with basic care you shouldn't need it.

There should be atleast 3 or 4 different extended warranty programs available through the dealership. I know we have 5 or 6 options at my dealership. Ask and shop around cause $3500 is a lot.

I would not, because I am having trouble getting any work done to my 350z at the dealer ship. I was told that even if my car smells like gas when I fill the tank, the work will not be covered under warranty. Also if you take your car to one dealership and they mess it up, no other dealership can fix your unless you want to pay for it. Even if the work they did the first time was under warranty.

Man....you guys deal with some ****ty dealerships. We fix things the other local dealers screw up all the time. If its a good customer and they're getting f'ed we do GRT's sometimes. Sad to hear how you guys get hosed

tell me about it, I even called 1-800-nissan1 and they told me that I had to take my car back to the dealership that scratched my dash, installed a broken cd player, installed the wrong door skid, kicked the side of my car several times getting in and out of my car. After I said something to the service manager he told me that they where not the only dealedship in town and I needed to go there.

A dealer service department is just a shop with a direct bill contract with Nissan.

If they screw it up, they did the work, not Nissan

Remember retail parts are marked up 100% from cost, one might assume the extended service contracts have a similar cost structure.........$1750 depending on the volume written. Everything is negotiable.

13 years ago I paid $1100 [dealer cost], inflation would say $1615.

$2000 would be fair to everyone.

You don't necessarily have to purchase an extended warranty on the spot right? Can't you buy one before your current one runs out?

To finance something you aren't even using for thousands of miles in the future seems like a bad plan too.

I could be wrong.

edit: OP was your dealership offering any incentives on the 2006's? Did they have 07's yet?
