Hello all,
I've been spending some time reading the forum the past year and finally registered (this is my first post). My dad had a total-loss of a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport last year and I researched a reliable used truck as a replacement. I was impressed with the R50, RJ50 models so I persuaded him to buy a 2001.5 (date says 09/00) Infiniti QX4. I was so impressed with the value of his truck that I also decided to purchase one! I purchased a 2001.0 (date says 03/00) QX4 from a local dealership a few weeks ago. I've owned a 1990 Honda Civic for the past 6 years and needed to be a truck for my new growing puppy (6 month Golden Retriever). So far, Him and I love the truck and the space. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the gas mileage; I was able to get 300-340 miles out of my Honda Civic in a 10~ gallon tank with the lowest grade gas. My Qx4 is getting about 250 miles out of a tank with the highest grade gas out of a much larger tank. This is definitely an adjustment... Well, within a year my dad and I both have a QX4! I will be posting some pics soon!
[FORUM QUESTION]
After purchasing the truck, I immediately changed the oil to Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 Full-Synthetic and will continue to use this oil for the life of the vehicle. Since I don't have any records, what other maintenance is recommended for a truck with this mileage? I also notice a loud/rough start when the truck sits for a while (overnight). It goes away after a few seconds. My suspicion is it has something to do with the oil lubricating parts of the engine. Is there a way I can fix this? My Dad's QX4 doesn't seem to do this (hoping it's not too serious). Anything else I can do to help gas mileage? I read somewhere on here that you can put manual locking hubs on a truck, but I believe I can't do this since my truck is an auto-transmission (there is a knob I use to switch into 4-wheel drive)... thoughts? Thanks
