If one were to buy a OEM new Infiniti Q45 long block for a G50 (1990-1996) Infiniti Q45, Does it have to be torn down again? Meaning that when the engines were put together way back when... the Master Techs put oil or grease on bearings so on first startup engine wear would be minimal. Now sitting all these years does nothing good I bet. So would it be wise to tear down the OEM new long block and re-grease everything before installing it?

You buying a new one from Infiniti?????

That sounds like a really, really bad idea Paul! There are tons of these engines sitting around waiting for you to rehab them for much less, while you start a down payment on your house!

No No No I wont buy a new engine just yet. But a friend of mine asked me to come back to NICO and so I thought I would post this. I just came up with this the other day...

I wouldnt tear it down.. I would only be worried if it looks like it wasnt stored properly, but if its crated from the factory it should be OK.. If you're really that concerned about it, take the oil pan and valve covers off and dump oil everywhere...

FWIW there is a break in period for a reason, much of the engines wear happens within the first 10 or so hours of use...
