I changed the o2 sensor on my ka24e since the ecu threw a code 33, which means the "exhaust gas sensor" circuit according to the FSM. After i put in the new one, i noticed my mileage dropped significantly and the exhaust fumes smelled more like gas than with the old o2 sensor. Is there a way to check if the new sensor is functioning properly? I was thinking about using the ecu's diagnostic mode II to check the A/F ratio, does this indicate anything about the sensor's functionality? Also, when i accelerate and then let off the gas suddenly the car bogs or jolts at high speeds (70+mph). Any ideas?

yes it should flash 5 times within 10 seconds at 2000rpms after the car is warmed up.

cool thanks! do u have any idea about the stumbling/jolting? i was thinking maybe the MAF? on my old 240 (same year/model) i noticed a ground wire leading from the MAF harness to the distributor base. My current car doesnt have one. i read somewhere that the Nissan dealerships sometimes install extra ground wires to solve problems- i was thinking that was it? I looked at the FSM for my car and in the ECCS wiring diagram, the MAF has 3 wires connected to it. two of the wires have some kind of cylinder around them that is grounded. i've never seen anything like it in wiring diagrams. how can i make an extra ground to the MAF?

you are correct the extra wire was added by a dealer most likely. you need to find the ground wire on the maf. it will be the one with the lowest voltage at idle. if it is over .02v it needs the other ground.

if the car is idling, i assume the maf harness will be connected to the maf. how can i test the voltage of each wire then? idle the car without the maf connected? Thanks a lot for your help!

no it is plugged in when you do the test. take a small paper clip or a stick pin used for sewing, push it into the back side of the connector and measure the voltage on each wire. place you black lead for the voltmeter on your intake manifold and the red lead of your meter goes to the pin or paper clip. you should have 3 wires to you airflow meter one red one white and one black the white one is your input to the ecm. and should be around 1.3v to 1.5 volts at idle.
