*Yes, I used search before posting before anyone asks*
After lurking this forum for many years now, I've finally made an account to ask the minds that make up this forum for some info.
Note: Engine was 100% bone stock before I installed this oil pan.
I just installed a Tomei baffled oil pan in my S15 Spec R, and filled it with Royal Purple 10w40, with a new OEM Nissan oil filter. I followed the step by step installation which was mostly pain free, however, I did not use the spring washers on the studs which you fasten nuts onto simply for the fact it's nearly impossible to do with the force of gravity acting upon you (may be the source of the noise but I highly doubt it). I did remove the windage tray so I had more room to properly remove the old gasket and such, and I tightened it enough so that I would not strip the aluminum in the sump. There's only a few factors I can imagine would cause this new noise. If I were to explain it I would say it sounds like a very high frequency vibration, and it only happens under boost. I test drove the car on the way to 7-11 to pick up some beverages, and under boost was when I first heard the noise. I thought it may have been the splash guard/undertray hitting the bottom of the pan, so I went ahead and crawled back under to trim it with some snips and it clears fine now, doesn't make contact with the pan at all. Test drove it again, noise is still there, once again only under boost. I have no clue what it is.
First probable things that pop into my head are:
-hinged doors on new oil pan baffles making noise
-VCT solenoid rattling due to different weight oil (previously made rattle when starting up after put into gear)
-Windage tray not tightened to spec
-Oil pan not tightened enough after gasket goo expansion? I did wait the recommended 24 hours for curing as per Permatex instructions
-Oil pan plug + copper crush washer not crushed enough
-Something else making noise after using thicker oil?
I'm not expecting much of a response but if anyone has some input or experienced the same thing after installing a baffled pan on an SR that would be cool. Maybe no one else notices the noise with a loud exhaust? My car is 100% stock other than this oil pan, and the only sort of noise it made before was the VCT rattle when putting into gear after start up.
