I recently purchased a 1990 Nissan 240SX, fastback with 5spd and 2.4l engine. The person I bought the car from said I needed to replace the headgasket. Now I'm thinking there is more to it then meets the eye. Is there anyone that can help me figure out whether or not I really need to replace the headgasket? I check the oil and there is no water in it, which is a singn the gasket does need replacing. I did notice, however, that the water pump gasket does need replacing. The water pump started to leak on me. If anyone has insite to the information I'm looking for, please email me: [email protected]

water in the oil is only one symptom of a blown headgasket, more commonly it leaks into the combustion chambers and turns into steam, look and see if there is white smoke coming out of your exhaust, not just because its cold though. it would also have a s weet smell. check compression on all cylinders, as it is the most sure way of determining head gasket faliure

ditto with 240kid. if your water pump looks like it has a leaky gasket, just get a new pump from a nissan dealer and seal it up with rtv. thats the stock gasket. rtv. you can get one cheap from one of our sponsors like everything nissan or midway nissan. they give us discounts and stuff.
