Looking to upgrade my HU, but don't want to replace the entire system (Bose amp'd speakers).

So (I tired the search), I'd like to know if a 2001 Pathfinder or similar will work in my 94 Q45. I understand to get a late model Nissan to work in my pre '95, I need to get an adapter (seen on ebay). I guess my question is aside from a $15 adapter or 2, will it work?

I want CD (not MP3) and cassette in one, but would love the in-dash 6 disc changer.

Basically, help?

I can't say whether the newer in-dash 6 disc cd player will work, but I know the single disc Infiniti/Nissan cd/cassette players made from 95-99 will do the job for you. You can pick up the adapter on E-bay for $20 with shipping, as I did, then you just need to get a Bose headunit to swap out your old HU. The 00-02 G20 headunit is also compatible. The 00-03 Maxima/I30 won't work, as I learned, because the headunit it oversized for those years and therefore doesn't fit the dash trim piece. I prefer the 99 Nissan/Infiniti Bose headunit for aesthetics, in fact I just installed one in my 98 I30 today. Fewer buttons is always better. I am going to give the headunit I took out to my stepdad who has a malfunctioning headunit in his 94 J30.

If you are interested in a changer compatible with your car, I have one of those I'd sell you.

Thanks for the info, but ever since I had a Sony DiscJockey (wayback machine) within reach from the drivers seat in my '89 CRX, I just can't imagine having a trunk mounted changer.

Will look for the HU's you mentioned.

This says it fits the G20, but has not plugs. Do you need the plug to use the adapter or does the adapter go fromt he car's plug to the back of the unit?

I actually like the looks of this one also.

You don't need the plugs unless you are trying to splice wires. The first one is the one I just bought and put in my car. The adapter is basically a set of plugs that will connect to the harness already in your car, and plug directly into the radio you buy. The second radio wouldn't need an adapter because it has the same plugs in the back as your Q45. The Tape-DNR button on the bottom right hand side of the front of the stereo is the giveaway when there is no picture of the back of the radio.

With the first stereo you listed, you get a newer player with more probably use (it is the one I prefer). With the second one, you get a direct fit and don't need an adapter.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep my eye out for a good deal or even check the salvage yards myself first hand.

Hey Rex, I have a working Bose double DIN deck pulled from a 95 Q45. It doesn't have a CD Player but does have CD changer controls. If you're interested, shoot me an email at [email protected].

I'd only be interested in a BOSE in dash CD, as I probably have the same HU as you. If you're interested in selling you might post in the BST forum as I some may choose it over the price (& downtime) of having theirs repaired.

FWIW, I wouldn't expect to get much more than $50+shippping for a good working non-CD Bose HU (based on ebay prices, demand and such).

Okay, I finally got one :D. It should be here by next week. Does anyone know exactly which adapter(s) I need and/or where to get them?

Got the adapter and it WORKS.

The opening in the dash is just a touch rounded in the corners and as you can see from the pic above, the HU is very squared-off.

Thats what i have in my 240!! I got it from my friends Maxima when he upgraded :p I replaced my stock speaker with alpines and the factor clarion amps are still working great! Makes for a nice cheap system (w/out sub though) IMO...

If you're using the factory (Bose/clarion) amps that were with each speaker with the Alpine after market speakers, you are probably "leaving something on the table" to borrow a racing phrase.

The factory Bose speakers are usually a much lower resistance (ohm) speaker. By using "standard" car speakers (4 ohm), you probably have to turn the volume knob alot more, but it may not be an issue. I think there's an adapter to allow you to use different amps with the Bose HU.

But if you're happy, I wouldn't change a thing.

I replied to your other post as well, but I'll try to help with the adapter. I "believe" it's for adding a CD player to a 90-96 300ZX. The ebayer I bought it from cut the Nissan part number tag off :(.
