"Nintendo has announced the 3DS, a new hand-held system set for release before March 2011 in Japan. This new system will be fully unveiled at this year's E3 show in June. While details are a bit slim as of now, the announcement stated the console would incorporate 3D technology without the need for players to wear special glasses. The 3DS will also be backwards compatible with all DS and DSi software."

I hope this doesn't turn out to be another virtual boy.

^ I regret not buying a virtual boy when they were in clearance. It was only in red that's why it wasn't that good. The 3d effect however was legit. I see big things with this.

I actually have 2 VBs

I'm only missing 1 published game. Nesters funky bowling is all I've got left. I have the Japanese games that wern't released over here in the US. Bomberman is awesome in 3d. Like you said though, the "red effect" got tiring on the eyes.

I'm thinking about getting rid of the other unit I have and putting it up on ebay. I need to check to make sure the second one still werks.

There's a DSi game out in Japan that might give an indication of how the 3D will work on the 3DS. It's called 3D hidden picture. It uses the cameras as motion sensors (something that has been hinted will be a 3DS feature) to alter the picture based on console angle.

There's also an iPhone game that uses accelerometers to achieve the same effect.

Personally, I don't see the big appeal of 3D. I don't give half a damn about it. I just want a more powerful Nintendo handheld, hopefully with at least double the current machine's resolution per screen.

At any rate, Nintendo says there will be playable 3DSs at E3.
