OK, so I promised this post a while back. Took a while to get all the parts together.

*******DISCLAIMER*******

I would like to start off with a mods disclaimer.. if you don't like over the top stuff, and you feel that impulse within you to hate, criticize or ridicule this project then please do not read this thread, do not post, and do not waste our time, for those that like original stuff read on!******* END of DISCLAIMER*****

OK, so most folks that buy the Avic D3 notice a big problem. The nagivation dvd drive is the same as the dvd player drive. Also, there is no dual zone capability like what you see in the Avic Z2. To fix the first problem, some folks just mount a dvd changer in the glove compartment. Well I did something different.........

I purchased the storage box (with all brackets) that comes with the Navigation package, I then had the cd changer hole custom cut to fit a new dvd player. But instead of just getting a dvd player, I purchased the Pyle PLD44MUBT dvd player wiith front aux input, front USB input, built in bluetooth, and 4.3" touch screen monitor. I got this unit mainly because of the 4.3" touchscreen and front usb input.

Now with the front usb input, I can either play my portable harddrive with TONS of music (80 GB) or I can load my 4 Gb usb drive with music videos, and play them continuously. (A feat I could not do b4 with my Zune)

All in all, I love it, and now, when I'm watching videos, I no longer have to take the dvd out when I want to change or operate the navigation. Also, when I reverse, my dvd or usb continues to play and show on the monitor below (and in the rear) while the top monitor shows the image from the rear view camera.

Oh yeah, and now the vehicle just looks sick at night. I also have a slight amber glow down by the petals.. it looks like a night club in my car at night... you'd have to see it to understand. In any case, there were some folks that were interested, so here's just a couple of night pics from my camera phone... I'll post more with better resolution later...

not bad. I used to have my UMPC mounted in my rsx in about the same position as your second screen. It would be interesting to try and replace the dvd player with that, since having a full xp computer in the car definitely has its advantaged sometimes. Not to mention my umpc is just sitting around now.

I feel ya, I went back and forth on the carputer idea before I went with the Avic. I chose the Aic for a number of reasons.

Also, with my current setup, I have a functional change drawer and a functional cigarette lighter there!

I love the headlights... just the look I was going for... got the idea from you... i don't like the idea of covering up HID's with overlays, so in addition to looking better (IMHO) the function of this setup is better also!

When do you need to start worrying about battery draw? lol

That's a very good question. Actually, what you worry about is Alternator overload. Remember, when the car is running, the battery charges the alternator, and everything runs off of that. The new Alternators in todays vehicles are more powerful than in previous years. For example, I believe the Alternator in the 2008 A/C is about 110 or 120 Amps. (In my 1995 Nissan 200sx, it was about 70 Amps) With that kind of Alternator, Even if i was running a 1000 watt stereo system, with a capacitor, I'd still be fine. So these four monitors shouldn't be a problem for this alternator!

ALso, if I do decide to add a system, I'll be replacing the factory battery with a dry cell yellow top battery... but I don't think I'm adding a system!

Do you mean that they store power for the subs, and then they do more hurt because you are in boca (elderly? if its too loud your too old!) lol just kidding...

Im not putting a system in the car ,but my basic stereo knowledge tells me that a cap is GOOD... that it is sort of a bucket of power.... it fills up off the battery, and for a pounding low end bass signal, it dumps all the energy on the sub... good no?

Either way, who cares what battery the Doc has... It doesnt even need to be turned on to look sweet!

Hmm, in ten years of being a car audio/video hobbyist, that's the first time I've ever heard that. However, I do not claim to be an expert, so please explain...
