Hello all. I have a new (3 week old) Graphite Shadow G37x sedan, which is my first Infiniti. I originally had an IS350, but when I PCS'd (Navy speak for moving to a new command) for the Navy to the northeast from San Diego, I decided to sell. After a brief pit stop with a Toyota Tacoma 4WD, I bought the G. My only regret is not splurging for the "S" package. I tried to "remedy" this oversight by installing the OEM paddle shifters. The install went well and work great, but I have one small problem. I got some of the red Loctite (from the steering wheel nut) on the top trim piece resulting in turning the black piece yellow. It looks like someone took a yellow highlighter and dabbed on the plastic. My car is 3 weeks old and I am a bit peeved at my inattention to detail. Anyone have any thoughts on how to remove this yellowing of the graphite trim? I tried water with mild soap and a light dabbing of a "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser." Any thoughts or suggestions is much appreciated!

I do have another option, I can replace the top trim piece, but I cannot figure out how to remove the cloth (vinyl/plastic?) piece the attaches to the top trim piece covering the steering column. Any thoughts on this as well?

Welcome to NICO!

Sorry to hear what happened. I'm sure others may chime in.

Assuming you contacted Loctite first for their input or maybe not.

I have no idea how big the stain is...hell even some sort of dye may help to cover it up.

Thanks for the link. I too did a search of the net and couldn't really pull up anything that worked. The Loctite didn't so much as harden, but rather turned yellow after I wiped it up quickly. I did not contact Loctite though. I actually have a spare trim piece and I may just pay the hours worth of labor and have an Infiniti dealership install it. It was a pretty bonehead maneuver... I really was trying to be very careful. I washed by hands 4 or 5 times through the whole process. Grrr.

LOL If I could I would. I could then just purchase the "S" package to begin with.

Oh, thank you for thanking me. Geez that sounds odd.

Hmm... maybe 'noob'?!If that is taken, possibly 'Resident Shrink.' I'm an active duty Navy Clinical Psychologist by profession.

Ah you should think outside of the box. LOL

If you can't take it away. Just cover it. You can use a sharpie or if you find etching pen that would actually give a similar color to it. That would be truely permament.

Oh and BTW welcome to the family.

Pictures would be great. Car previous cars girlfriends, wife/s.

We love pictures.

I know I can "cover-up" the stain rather than "remove it," but I just can't bring myself to do it. I know it would still be there and I'm a bit anal like that.

As for pics, I don't have any just yet of the G. The weather is supposed to be rather nasty in my area the next few days making it difficult to snap some shots. I could post pics of my last girlfriend, but it would probably piss off my wife of 12 years. Here is a pic of she and I at my residency graduation in San Diego, CA.
