New Member with a question

First, I wanted to say hello. I've had my coupe for a little over a year and I already have 24,000 miles on her. I don't need to tell you guys how much fun they are to drive

I have one problem though and I can't seem to get a resolution so I thought I would ask if any of you have had the same problem. After driving my car for about 20 or 25 minutes when I get out and walk away there is a popping noise that comes from underneath the car. Some times it is loud and other times its not. I've been taking it to the dealer now since October 2007 but they can't seem to find the problem. He's (Service Manager) heard the noise but still doesn't know what it is. He's checked all the heat shields as well as all the heat protectors under the car and has even replaced some parts but it still continues to make the noise. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas as to what it could be?

what kind of pop is it? is it a metalic one (aka, metal falling onto metal)?

It's loud enough to hear in the car and outside when you walk away a good bit. I'm lousy at juding distance. I park my car on the driveway, walk down the sidewalk to the front door and I can hear it. It's loud enough for someone beside me at a redlight or a drive thru to hear it. It's embarrassing. I first started hearing it once I cut the car off and then it started when I would be idling.

the best way I know how to describe it is this: You know when something gets hot and it's cooling off it will pop? That is what it sounds like. It's not like your ticking noise like a car's engine will do when it's cooling off.. that is normal. This noise is definitely not normal! I had a friend of mine drive my car and she was like what was that? It's definitely a metal sound.

so i was thinkin about this and i may be way way wrong, but if the engine's timing was advanced and it was running rich, un-burnt fuel could be slowly accumalating and igniting in the exhaust which would cause a loud pop........maybe

Would it only pop then when the engine was off or idling? I'm willing to suggest anything to the dealership because they've pretty much given up on trying to figure out what it is. I can't say he hasn't tried though... he has. He kept my car for 2 weeks and drove it trying to figure out what was going on.

as for if it would only pop once, its hard to say, but as for suggesting it to the dealership, well hell why not definately suggest it,
