Hello everyone, my names Kyle. My wife and I recently purchased a '06 Murano S AWD. She wanted an SUV for easier hauling of the granddaughter but none of the SUV's appealed to her until we ran across this '06. Looking around we noticed that it's pretty bare bones but the adjustable pedals make her happy since she's a bit vertically challenged. She would like heated seats but isn't a fan of leather so maybe we can add that later (was a heated steering wheel available in the Murano?).

I have a few questions if somebody doesn't mind my lengthy post.

The first issue is the transmission... It seems to brake when we let off the throttle. It's more noticeable at slower speeds and doesn't seem to coast like a "normal" transmission does. I'm not used to the CVT so maybe this is normal.

Second issue is the dash lights and cruise indicators. Is there any way to dim these further? The instrument cluster is so bright, even on the dimmest setting compared to the center console lights. And the cruise indicators are blinding and don't dim with the dash lights.

Third is a "smelly shoe" smell from the vents. It's not a dead animal, the wife says musty but I think it smells like an old shoe. Is there a TSB or some kind of fix for this like disinfecting the evaporator maybe? I need to check the evap drain, too.

I'd like to add some driving lights to the fog light ports once I figure out a way to get that done - it doesn't have fogs.

I like it and she loves it. Again, some more options would be nice and if we find out she could have had a heated steering wheel she might have to add one or trade for one!

Thanks!

On our 2009, the CVT "gears down" mildly when we let off the throttle while going down a steep grade. This is a useful feature that helps hold the speed on a descent and reduces the need for braking. But on level roads, ours seems to coast normally.

Nissan has just exended the CVT warranty on all Muranos to 6 years and 120,000 miles, so maybe you could have the dealer check yours.

That is what I'm learning. It appears to be normal, thanks. Now, if I could just get rid of the smell!

Anyone have issues with the bright dash lights? It bothers my wife enough that I'm afraid I may have to go into the dash and figure out a way to match the dash to the console in terms of brightness..... somehow.

Yes, the warranty is 10 years as per the Nissan site.

The CVT does take some getting used to. Also, do you have it in "D" or "Ds"?

Dash dial is the only way to adjust the dash illumination.

I had the smelly shoe musty smell on my '05 G35x The dealer did something to the ventilation system to take care of it. The other thing it could be is the In Cabin Microfilter. That probably needs to be replaced.

There was never a heated steering wheel available on the Murano, have to buy an '08 Armada or Maxima to get that one!

Enjoy the new ride and welcome to NICOclub, we are glad to have you here in the Murano Forum!

I didn't even know it had a cabin filter!I'll be using some stuff on the evap here shortly.

I don't know if it was D or Ds, but it was the first position after neutral.

I'm not done with the dash light situation. I'll be doing some exploritory surgery this weekend!
