First things first, my name is Mike and I am a proud owner of a 94 green j30t (it has hicas, I love it). I live here in Miami, fl and so far I have been doing allot of research both on the service manual that came with the car and on the net. Before I got the car, my oldest cousin was the first owner of the car and him and his g/f neglected the car severely but somehow, with over 205,000 miles (all highway and insane to see that much miles on the original vg) the engine still runs strong. Since I got a hold of it from him for free last month, I decided to go ahead to make the attempt to restore the car to its original condition. As most of us would most likely do, we always start of with the engine. I did a battery of test and diagnostics on the car and the most obvious sign that I must take care of is a oil leak from the the front oil seal of the engine. Now here is my question:

would it have to be absolutely necessary to remove the oil pump to get the seal out or can I do it with the pump still on the engine?

if anyone here has experience with this issue, please let me know because I even though the leak is minor, I still see it as a serious issue. Thanks!

Auto-RX also claims to be able to stop leaks AND clean the engine at the same time. Look into that too.

I will give one of those items mentioned a try to see if it would stop. if it does, I will let you all know how it goes. Hopefully it works.

It's not a leak, your car is just marking its spot.

here is the thing though, if I decide to actually change out the seal, is it absolutely neccesary to remove the pump like it says in the service manual? I know that some of us here have actually did the seal replacement on our car so can someone tell me if did this before and and had to do this too?

No, you don't have to pull the pump if you are going to do a front crank seal, but if the oil leak is some from the pump seal, then yes. Here is a pic, hope this help.

That pic was taken when i did a timing belt job along all the oil seal, tensioner, and everything else, basically the whole package for a local NicoClub member,if i remember correctly, the whole job took me about 6hrs from start to finish.

thanks for the info nismochi, right now I got access to a lift here at the school that I am attending to get my ase certification so I am probably gonna guess that if done right, it might take me around 2 1/2 to 3 hrs to begin and complete the job. Once I get this done, I got to replace the pcv valve in my car, I got oil buildup within the intake tract all the way to the throttle body. Anyway, enough said, thanks for the info!

Good luck to get it done in 2 1/2 to 3 hrs for the first time, also, a lift wouldn't make it any easier or quicker.
