Post

Greetings ladies and gentlemen.

I apologize for long post, i know how those are treated here.

This post has no practical knowledge inside, so read only if you're bored :)

Here's the story. In 2000 when I moved to US (from Russia). I bought a used car off of my friend and it worked out nice for me as a commuter. It was 95 240sx auto with 55k miles on. previous owner only added stereo with amp and woofer and alarm. I payed $7500, in 2000 it was a good deal if you ask me.

It came the time to buy a new car (I thought) and I test drove a few (Saab 9-3, VW Golf GTI, A4 1.8T BMW etc). Every time I would love their cars but as soon as I get back into mine to dive home, I would feel something I haven't felt in any of the above mentioned cars. I felt atached. I forgot to mention that this is the first car I've ever owned. But it could be due to the fact that i KNOW this car.

Anyway I was facing either high monthly premium with trouble-less car for first years or do the work on my 240 and deal with mileage ( coming from russia, i though that 105k miles I had it on by than was WAY high).

I have been religiously reading this forum for past 4 months. First off I got rid of TEH STEELIES. Tires.com sent me a nice package of black Konig Drivers 16x7 along with 205/55/16 Kumhos (start flaming here :) everything for $800 shipped and balanced.

Next upgrade I knew i had to take it to mechanic so I decided to make once big upgrade at once but on a limited budget.

AGX/Prokit combo from Enjuku for 650 shipped.Brembo Drilled/Slotted rotors/Axis pads - 245 shipped ebayASP Pulley from rpmoutlet for 106 shipped Bomz strut bar from ebay - 25 from ebay (beat that price)Sparks/300fuel filter/O2 sensorAEM Intake - 120

Before putting all that on I printed out Seafoam article and went through all procedures (not much smog from pouring it itnot the brake booster line, good sign :)

After that my mechanic installed everything mentioned above along with all the necessary belts and did all wheel allignment for $450 (everything was done in one day)

Stock exhaust started making weird sound and the muffler shop dude (if you're in berkeley, those people own) welded leak on my resonator for free. I also had a good chance to inspect the bottom of the car. Two words - Cali ownz.

I'm so happy with my car and more I'm happy with abscece of payments and my insurance being !3 times less than my friends brand new SI.

I have two poblems now:

I'm hooked. I want more POWER !!! (separate topic)

Side problem here is when I'm late for work in the morning cops don't find it reasonable enough for taking Embarcadero exit off the bay bridge at 45 instead of original 20 (AGX set to 3 front 6 rear).

Car isn't for sale now and I will keep dumping money into it for personal pleasure.

P.S. Pics to follow

Car is not black ( I wish), But it is Violet purple ( factory color for 95). It actualy looks really nice when it is clean. I need to repain my front bumper. On the other hand I was conteplainting on getting a bra. Much more practical for city use.

As far as pouring cash. I started it recently, after I decided to stick with it.

Hot looking or getting hot too fast?

Actualy having drilled/slotted rotor in the back helped a lot, coz it was non-vented. But I have reservations about front rotors. I think plain OEM Brembos with the same pads would have stopped a bit better. It still bites very well, but i think on plain rotor that biting effect would have happened fraction of a second earlier. I don't really care since it stops MUCh faster than on my old worn rotors and OEM pads.

For my needs this setup works out superb and has significantly less fade on downhill. Going through Mt.Tamalpais to Stinson Beach doesn't scare me as much as it used to.
