I can't leagally drive it intill my birthday in December, but intill then I'll just keep saving up for a SR20DET. Anyways I just wanted to hello!

Welcome aboard. I hope that you enjoy the car. You couldn't have found a much better vehicle to learn to drive in. It has enough power to get you in trouble, but not so much power that you're going to smack it into a wall with a misplaced throttle blip.

welcome. do not save up for a SR motor for your first modification. please get some good experience driving the car and learn how it handles and reacts. save your money for tune up and repairs.

learn the car then buy mods. there is nothing like a 240sx with wheels like back to the future when a crub is hit!

Thanks guys for the warm welcome, I know I need gain experiance and get to know my how my car handles better and since your saying I shouldn't get the SR first then what should I get first? I did fail to mention that when i get the SR i'm also planning on getting a NUR SPEC exhaust, a good downpipe, 255 lph fuel pump and maybe some motor mounts.

just get under the hood to get to learn how to do things with the engine like tune-ups. changing spark-plugs, oil changes and such.

I see what your saying TurboKA, but i know quite alot about cars for my age, but i don't really have anyhands on experience, besides some oil changes and water pump changes and a few other things like that, so i definetly wanna get some hands on experience. but what should i get first if not the SR, i mean i have some money saved up for the SR, should i use that to get some stuff or just keep saving for the SR?

im kinda in the same spot that ur in, i have my permit right now and i have alot of knowledge about cars but not much experiance. im not getting a SR im going to try to go KAT but im still debating whether i should go KA-T right off the bat (i have the money) or if i should first invest in some nice rims and get some nice suspension mods. the reason i dont want to go SR is cuz everyone does it and i dont like to follow the croud.

they mean don't go tearing the town in a 250+ hp car and don't know how to handle it. the learning curve for a rwd car is already high enough, but you have some leeway with low horsepower. add a hundred to the stock 155 and you are asking to be just like those clowns at school who got a brand new cobra and totalled it. so what if you have to wait an extra 6 months, or even a year. it'll take 3 just to get the motor, and you can be driving your *** off. try getting some suspension, everyone I've talked to said they wish they got suspension before, cuz now they handle like crap and can't slow down cuz they have no breaks. don't get so exited and forget to be smart. you don't want them to dedicate the yearbook to you during graduation.

Welcome to the NICO. If I were you I'd get a good set of springs and struts to start with. Cost about 600 and will Give your car a better ride. Then you might wanna get some wheels. Just a thought.

Welcome to NICO and I hope you enjoy the vast amount of knowledge here, and it shows by the people already posting about getting suspension/brake upgrades first.

The first thing you will learn is our stock brakes SUCK!, and with an older vehicle a good suspension upgrade would do you much good, including your bushings probably.

If I could suggest building your car's other attributes for the sr before its installed, you will thank yourself later if you do.

On most old vehicle, especially in the northern states, because of salt on the roads, some bolts become frozen in the bushing because of rust and road grime, I would replace any bushings that you can while you install an aftermarket suspension

For bushings you could try Whiteline from PDM-Racing...

Hope that helps.

Very well put.

I noticed your sig, and you seem to be interested in drifting...I know plenty of people who drift with their stock KA motors, which aren't bad at all.

In fact, there is word right now of a SOHC S13 that can beat the FD and SR20 S13 in his drift crew on the downhill.

And get this: his mods are coilovers, strut bars, and an OPEN DIFF. :)

While the car is sitting in your driveway, undriven (:( ), Take the time, and some of the money, and replace ALL the fluids in your car, the belts, the air intake, maybe even the timing chain. Do any and all basic tune up services you can think of. That's what's gonna get you the most bang for your buck. Then I'd go for suspension, and brakes. Then, if nothing else has tickeled your fancy (like maybe some J30VLSD:ylsuper), I'd do the swap. Just my $.02.

BTW, welcome to the boards and congrats on a great car purchase!

Thanks for all the help guys, and i will take your advice and get some better suspension. I think there is actually something wrong with my rear suspension. Anyways I really like Tein but i don't want to spend over a grand on coilovers yet, is there something cheaper that will improve the handling and lower the car slightly? like eibach or something? I also have allready pretty much replaced all the fluids and the waterpump (it was leaking) and the plugs. and yes i would like to try and learn how to drift, seems fun as hell.

BTW. The car was bought in Florida for 2700, it has no rust and runs fine, it was paid for by my parents after years of getting good grades, including like a 4.0 GPA average. The money for the mods is the money i saved from work, presents etc.

I actually stole the "replace all the fluids etc. ... most bang for your buck" from you:D.

Did it sound a little familiar?

asking for only money for birthday and christmas presents. odd-jobs such as mowing neighbors' yards, installing basketball hoops, surround sound systems, watering plants when ppl are on vacation, etc, making $10+/hr on a bad night of bussing tables at a upscale resturant under the table. and im finding another job at the moment. im going to go apply at the new EB Games right now. later
