Hello all - I am intersted in your thoughts on the following: I have a 2003 G35 sedan. The driver's seat no longer will move forward and backward. The problem is a small plastic gear (about the size of the tip of my little finger) which is stripped. Infinity wants to fix it by installing an aftermarket 'kit' to the tune of almost $900. With labor it is around $1100 for a $3 plastic gear that is stripped. I have escalated to the district service manager with no success. My contention is this is a manufacturing defect and Infinity should do the right thing and fix this for free or at least a nominal cost. Any thoughts or direction would be appreciated.

no matter what kind of work you need done the dealership is inevitably going to be the most expensive. But at the same time the techs familiarity with the vehicle is worth a lot. I'm surprised the labor is not more. On my 03 coupe the seat was out several times and the time spent was definitely more than a couple of hours. If you want to save money buy the piece and get someone else to install. Just remember this maybe the first time he's done this job on this brand of car.

I think your being unrealistic in expecting Infiniti to cover this at no cost. Depending on manufacture date this vehicle is 6-7 years old. If you expect to be covered bumper to bumper for the lifetime of the car you might try Rolls Royce but even there I doubt every litle nut and bolt is going to be covered till eternity.

Welcome!

Yikes!! That's a definite piss off so I can fully understand your frustration!!

You do need to be somewhat understanding of their position as your car is 6 years old.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, maybe you can purchase this part yourself and install it?

I don't think there is really any other options other then another local shop.

maybe a tech will chime in shortly.

Another option may be to find a seat at a Junkyard. Has to be way cheaper than $1100.

I do agree with the other comments. 6 years old car is to be expected to have troubles.

Be honest with you I would only buy a car with many tech gadgets in it with either extended warranty or be preperaid to pay for these things. I probably would buy something simple. Less power equipment is better when you get to older cars since you end up paying for it.

Love warranty.

Hello, Were you able to find a replacement gear. I have been looking, even trying to get one custom made? I can't even find one at a junk yard.

When my 04 G coupe seat started acting up (would go back on it's on and would not go forward...), I took it to my local Nissan dealer for extended warranty work. I believe they replaced the motor and the assembly that it was housed in. The bill said it was around $700, but I believe that was the parts only. I would consider taking it to a Nissan dealer and getting a price. Might want to consider buying the entire assembly and doing it yourself. Can't be that hard.

Hi Scolf69,

I found a guy that actually makes these gears for $65.00. check out www. odometergears.com. I just spoke to a guy named Jeff, he is making two gears for me today. Don't waste your money at a dealer for what should be a $3.00 replacement part. My G35 will be For Sale as soon as this part is installed.
