Hi everyone, Chicago member here I just recently found my password and id as i have been skimming on here for a while. I am a 2002 F50 owner and am going to start VIP modding this winter and also do a complete change to my stereo. Now my forum topic is what do I need to do to take the governors lock(or motor limitation) off to achieve the full speed of the dash. It slows it self down at about 130mph. And also what performance mods have other owners done? (K&N intakes? Turbos? Exuast?) I have seen the post about the supercharger and def. like the idea, also read about a few exuasts, i would like a throaty exaust sound but only if i really like floor it, as i would like to keep the stock or quiet sounding most of the time. Any suggestions? Thanks

using the search button would answer most of your questions. Mods have been address at length. Same with exhaust. Pop over to M45 site and see the 03-04 M45s. they have identical engine and exhaust.

The 130 limitation seems odd, but unfortunately this is governed by the computer in the car, and it is not longer a simple "chip" upgrade. You will need to find someone that knows how to re-program the car. I know places that do it for BMW and MB, but not for Infiniti, but there should be someone out there.

You can see there are few bolt on mods for you car, exhaust is easy and a supercharger could be done but it would be nearly all custom work. Stay away from K&N, they tend to muck up these cars.

I had similar ideas for my 97' Q and found few or no products out there to help off the shelf. Stillen made an exhaust for me car that I decided to not to apply, so I ended up doing suspension, rims and tires and lived with stock engine performance. The biggest thing for a 8 year old is to make sure that all your fluids are fresh and updated, transmission, power steering, brakes, rear end etc. Make sure that is 100% before you jump onto anything for more performance.

And that attitude pretty much explains why F50 owners don't post anymore on NICO. :frown:
But the poster wears a bra so what can you expect (see his avitar)

I am surprised it is limited at 130 as the 03-04 M is Limited to 147 as was tested in Car and Driver. There are almost no worthwhile Performance Mods. Jet does offer an ECU Flash that does turn off the Limiter however. As 147 is far faster than I would ever want to Drive the M, I never considered doing the Flash.
Cheers,
ML

Mcrews i was referring to the voluptuous women that help me keep my pearl white seats EXTRA white! F50's are a joke. My G50 will outllast your joke far longer. Do you even touch your own car? i bet you touch yourself more! Even at 10 years older my car will triple the length of your piece that is labeled an infiniti. And BTW, No one posts on nico anymore. Well not NO one but very few. But occasionally a newbie with an F50 does. good day!

Man what a great way to welcome a new guy!

To the OP, like others have said I dont think theres many useful mods you can do. Like they said, you CAN remove the top speed limiter, you can do many basic things but in general they have little performance effect...

Honestly the best modification you can do is put a good set of tires on the car and keep it up to OEM spec.

Well I have searched all forums and have found all the old posts, but the pictures no longer show and they are not very detailed, unless there is something I'm missing? As far as the limitation it probably was around 140 something or so, i don't recall exactly as my eyes were on the road and not the dash but the needle was over there. I am a newbie on this site but not to infiniti, I have had my F50 since brand new in 02 ( Father gave it to me as HS Grad present in '06), As i have driven this car through my teen years it has been hammered and abused but has been problem free. Just a couple weeks ago had everything checked out on the Q at the dealer so it is A OK. just rolling on 84k miles I really didn't know about all the problems others were having, guess I got a lucky one out of production. I think the Major problem i have had so far is the headlight ballast going out, both have been replaced.

I will now ask if anyone in the Chicago area knows of a good tuner shop that works on Nissan and infiniti. I have spoken with a contact of mine at AMS performance in West Chicago, and he has pretty much said no one has tampered with one of these and that there aren't many options for it. I have come across a website where i can order motors from japan and they have one with high power numbers that I am looking for, but for 25K i am pretty sure I can get the same results way cheaper state side (hoping someone knows somewhere in my area).

As far as other mods go, i have ordered new 3pc 22's, (I've had 19's all the way up to 24's on my car and i feel 22's are the best looking in my opinion), I have four 10.4" monitors with individual DVD players built in and I am debating whether or not to put my MTX 9500 sub woofers back in. I do have curtains, pillows and neck pads in storage. I am awaiting for my body kit, roof spoiler, eyeliners, and window visors to arrive.

I am going to do the air suspension, and dual exhaust because the kit has the cutout in back for two(maybe borla, kinda want that sound dads CL63 Merc has, not too loud at idle but not too quiet when hammered). Full paint and interior will be redone, not sure on my ext. color, but is def gonna be sick on the guts.

Debating on what to do with my roof, I don't know if there is a way to create a poll or some thing but im gonna do one of the following: a Put in a glass sliding roof out of Mercedes or Beamer (already priced them from both dealers @$2500)
b Put in a stationary full glass roof (custom glass will have to be cut)
c Just do away with the roof Cali style and not meaning convertible like those knock off 300c and Chargers
with those ugly boots on the trunk.(And I am aware of my weather conditions as it will be a show car now)

Cool news about the show car. There is a Chicagoland show March 4-6, 2011.

Let me know if you decide to enter.

I'm hoping to get mine into the February 18-20 Dallas show. There are some other Infiniti owners in the Dallas area with show quality cars that may also be in that show.
It is always good to have some cars from the same manufacturer in the same area in a show. The autorama always have a wide variety from way "tricked out customs" to original concours class vehicles.

exhaust: you will have to reposition all of the 'gas fume tubing & box" to run duals uot both sides. Look under an M45 and see where they moved all that stuff too. the M45 runs dual out both side. Just because the kit is cut for duals doesn't mean they are automatic.
several Q45 have dropped the suitcase muffler at the rear, run an x-pipe at the resonator and locked the exhaust flap thing(right at the rear axle) open.
here is the rear muffler removed

here is wht has to be rerouted to dual the passenger side

here is x-pipe

I might consider entering the car show depending on wha kind of time frame I get from my installers. It'll probably cut it close if I do. Dont want to put a rush on things.
Thanks for the exaust info, I'll be sure to show it to my installer. Parts are still coming in, I should be Starting my build after the holidays.
