Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I just traded in my 04 mustang gt convertible for an '03 350 touring 6 speed and couldn't be happier. However, I have noticed a few minor issues with my new ride I was concerned about. First, when I hit the button to pop the trunk, I can't open it unless i'm pulling up on the lid when i'm popping it. If I pop the trunk but am not holding up on the lid, it seems to be locked so I can't open it. Is this normal, or a problem? Second, when I put up the passenger side window, it often goes bacck down a few inches on it's own. My work around is to hold the window up with the button, then turn the car off and open the driver door- then it doesn't go back down. Is this repairable by myself or should I just let a dealer repair it? The car is in good shape overall, and has not been modified.

Thanks!

Every once in a great while the deck lid doesn't release cleanly when I open it manually. Try opening it with the remote on the key fob and see what happens. If you can't clearly see it pop up a little bit I would suspect that the problem is inside. I suspect that already, but opening it remotely will eliminate the possibility of the problem being with the manual release. If it is quasi-stuck and you've been pulling on it to open it you may have worn away some metal. I hope not, or if you have that its not too bad.

About the windows, when you say a few inches is it literally a few inches or is it just the small amount the windows raise & drop when you open & close the doors? If its the latter it could potentially be the sensor in the door but given that you've got on '03 it could be that the power window motor is going out.

try this:sit on your passenger side with the door open and your key on.Hold the window switch down (not auto down, hold it).Hold it all the way up (not auto up)-Do this a few times, or until it is working properly, then try it with the door closed, then finally try it with auto up and auto down... oh then with the driver door switch.

I know when i replaced my window motor it was funny when i first tried it and i did this and it has worked fine since...

If it doesn't solve your problem, please let us know...

If it happens to be the window motor, zerothread/353429 , should have a link or tell you where i got the window motor from... Any questions just ask or email me.

Hi rmezz13 I appreciate your response. I'll give that a shot. I have read a bunch of posts, and noticed that people seem to try the "reset" feature, which works for a bit, but it seems to break again on them. From what I read, many recommend picking up a new motor. Unfortunately, before I saw your response, I bought a new one on ebay tonight for $120. If this procedure helps, perhaps I will be able to save myself some work with the install for now, and hold on to it for when things break beyond repair. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks!

Well, this makes me bitter! lol. I tried what you suggested, and it didn't seem to fix the window problem. However, I did notice something I didn't notice before during this procedure. I found out, after your suggestion, that the window only goes back down by itself a few inches when I use the "auto up" feature. When I roll the window up without the auto up feature, it stays up where it should. I'm perfectly happy with this work around, so I'll try to resell the motor when it arrives I suppose. Thanks for the tip, you just saved me some cash!

So with the window problem out of the way, I only have 2 more to tackle... the trunk pop, which seems to not completely unlock the trunk unless I hold up on the lid lightly while i pop it, and that one of my 2 rear wheels reports "--" for the tire pressure instead of the expected "32" or similar value. Not sure why it is reporting "--", perhaps the sensor is bad? It's not critical obviously, but it's so neat to see tire pressure, it breaks my heart that one of the tires isn't being reported.

Wow! Have you been sneaking my car in and out of my garage? I picked up an '03 Touring 6-spd a few weeks ago and have these exact same problems -- auto-up passenger window problem, trunk problem, and one rear tire reading '--' for the pressure. How 'bout that? I smell a systemic problem here. Unfortunately, I've had 15 other things going on since I got my car, so I haven't been able to even start to remedy any of these issues. If I find the time, and stumble upon a fix for any of these, I'll be sure to post.

I've had that trunk release problem. I've always thought that my dampers were getting a little weak.

to help with your hatch problem believe it or not i have the solution. On the hatch itself there are spring thingys on both sides the are covered with a boot easy to find. twist and pull the boot off and add 2 cents to both sides and u should be good. this is the cheapest fix you will ever do.

thanks ritcjie, i'll try it later today and let you know if it worked. i am also hoping this will alleviate the annoying thump i hear when i hit a bump and the hatch rattles, probably isn't even sitting on the stops. keep your fingers crossed.

I can't believe it! your "4 cent" fix repaired my trunk pop issue. Thank you so much, you just saved me alot of money because I would have taken it to the dealer. Works like new! All I did was 1) remove the spring boot, 2) twist the spring 90 degrees to remove it from the lid, 3) inserted 2 pennies at the bottom of the boot, 4) put the boot back on the spring, and 5) put the spring/boot back into the lid and did another 90 degree turn to lock it back into place.
