Post

Hi everyone,

I drive a 1998 I30 with 162,000+ miles and a muffler that is rusting and will need to be replaced soon ((it's already starting to rattle a little , so I wanted to do some research before having to drive around for a week with an obnoxiously loud car). I would like to replace the current system with an after market cat back system. I hoping to get recommendations on a quality cat back system to install on the car when the current muffler goes south.

On that note, my goal is to find something that is a balance between performance and everyday drive-a-bility. That is, something that will give me a little boost in performance without waking up the neighbors. For example, I installed an aftermarket intake system a few years ago. In everyday driving, the sound from under the hood is almost unchanged. But, when I put my foot into it, the car emits a nice, throaty burble, without being unreasonable.

Ideally, the system would be reasonably priced and something I can install over the course of a weekend.

I'm a new member, so any and all help/feedback/recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

Ya those aftermarket intakes make ANY car sound awsome. As for the catback, you prolly wont see any big gains there. Most of the choking happens where the catalyst is. Maybe find a real good exhaust shop to take a look and see what you need that would give you more flow, and a good muff that wont go BURRRR really loud. On my old Taurus SHO, I had a catback that would burrrr really loud, so i got the biggest resonator this shop had and it made it sound deeper and no rasp.

how much money do you have to spend? Most full cat-backs for a32's are expensive, IMHO I would get a muffler shop to make something for you. Im running 2.5" pipe from the cat to a straight through magnaflow muffler
