I just purchased a 1992 G20 Infiniti last night. Wish I had known that buyer beware. I knew i would have to replace the brakes. However driving home the car over heated after 5 miles of driving it. I noticed the radiator was hot on one side and cold on the other. This prompted me to remove the radiator cap. There was pressure relief but no spewing coolant. As luck would have it my brother had a bottle of coolant in his car we put it in and proceeded to drive home. The car did fine, and this morning I saw that the coolant needed to be toped off again (also checked the oil to ensure no coolant was mixing in the oil) so far so good. Now as a precaution I want to replace the water pump and thermostat, however I can not fine the thermostat, usually it is off the top hose but the top hose goes into a triangular shaped peice attached to the engine block. Could someone tell me where the thermostat housing is? Also after reading some of the threads here. i see people stating that if you turn on the A?C it will cause both radiator fane to come on. I did this and the fans do not turn on. Can someone give me some guidance on this also?

The thermostat is inside the piece that looks like this:

I have been looking for this housing on my G20, but I have not found it. The top hose should attach to this but it does not. Right now I plan to look at the bottom hose when I get home, would really be odd if the thermostat is sitting at the bottom of the radiator.

The picture might not be your exact water neck, but your thermostat will be in your water neck. Have RTV handy and just pull it apart.

Thermostat housing is located on the right side of the head below distributor. The lower radiator hose connects to the neck for the thermostat housing.

I found it and replaced the thermostat, really odd that it comes off the bottom hose. Working now on the water pump. I'd like to have a room, a baseball bat, and the engineers who designed this car. Question should I also change out the power streering pump whilw I am in that area.

Are you having problems with your power steering?

Well there is some power steering fluid leakage, not sure whether it is the pump itself or a leaky hose. But the area is so confining that I am wondering if I should go ahead and replace it and hopefully not have to work in that area again in my lifetime, lol.

Rarely ever heard of the pump being bad, but it's always possible. Usually it's a hose leak. If you haven't lost any steering-ability, then it's likely on the low-pressure line. Totally your call. I am partial to replacing parts on 19 year old cars too.
