Hey everyone.

This is my first time posting on these boards. I currently own a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE 5spd which is modified, and I am looking into buying this 1989 Nissan 240sx SE 5spd as a 2nd car. The 240sx body has 195,000 miles on it along with the transmission. The 240 supposedly has a new motor(stock KA24E i assume) that has 80,000 miles on it, but I see no proof of that. Is there anyway I can check to make sure the motor has 80,000 miles on it? Now I was wondering what you guys think of this purchase. FACTSThe car is a 1989 240sx Se 5spd with 195,000 miles on the body, transmission and has a 80,000 mile motor in it. The car looks to be in good shape, a few nicks and dents, and some paint fade on the front spoiler. The car is a dark silver color and the interior seems to be in good shape. I have to go test drive this car soon, so I need to know what to look for. I am also wondering what kind of cheap mods you can do to this car? I also was interested in getting some more info on the 240's of this generation.

Thank you everyone,

-Nick

I have an 89 fastback with 140k ... I would not believe anyone who said they rebuilt or purchased another motor unless I saw credit card receipts or check carbon copy or any receipts whatsoever.

If you decide to go into that sale go into it with the mindset that that motor has 195,000 miles on it!

Then you wont be disappointed that much when it breaks down because you didnt fool yourself.

be careful and ask for receipts

Lets say the motor does have 195,000 Miles on it, How much is it worth? The 1,500 still?

The following is to just give you the general "skinny" on the 240sx

-Look for Rust on the underside of the car-$1500 isn't o bad if everything in in GOOD condotion..there are some 195, 000 mile vehicles out there that still drive like new..maybe you've found one of em'.-Do a SEARCH at the very top of the screen (it's Red) and that along with the rest of the helpful people on here should help you on your way-BTW WELCOME TO NICO

Well... that all depends.. , How does it drive? How does it look? any rust? does it have stock spoiler? .... look at the brake and clutch and gas pedals see how worn the rubber is on them. ... umm... check the spot where the hood bar hooks into the hood to hold it up.. check for alot of scratches around that hole which would indicate it was worked on alot ... smell the oil make sure it doesnt smell like gas... rub some oil between your fingers see if it has grains in it... .also... smell the oil to see if it smells burned... look and see if there is water in the oil.....

If I think of more I'll re post or edit this post

I went to look at the car today and I saw that the car had been hit in the rear slightly, causing the taillight to crack. The guy promised me a new taillight from his 240 parts car and front and rear bumper shells. He is also going to show me the parts car and old motor for proof, the cars paint is "decent". A couple dents and dings that I could expect from an '89. I think that I could clean the car up nicely and the tires have about 80 percent tread left. I think i'm gonna test drive it and if that all goes well, Im gonna offer him 1,200 dollars. What do you guys think? Thanks,

-Nick
