Greetings.. figured I'd introduce myself here. I'm sotech, and hopefully an Infiniti owner soon. I currently have an '05 545i which I love quite a bit, especially since it's got the Sport and Premium packages. That said, I'm looking to compliment it with something even sportier and that has lead me to look for a G35 Coupe. As far as I can tell from my research I'm looking for an '06 or '07 and one with the sport package as I believe that will include the lsd, spoiler and some other options along those lines.

Can anyone here weigh in on any gotcha or gotta-haves or anything like that? I already have 2 other paid off vehicles right now that I'll probably either sell or trade-in, so I'm in no rush , which means I can afford to be picky and patient. Color isn't super important, as long as it's not all white.. my 545i is all white, but that's b/c it's my daily driver and I live in Arizona where that really matters.

Aside from all that, I'm in IT where I work as a senior linux administrator for a company ya'll have probably heard of. I like good movies/tv/books, and of course, autos. :)

The only real issues that you may find with the G35, especially the Rev-Up series is oil consumption. I would make sure the maintenance records are up to date and there are no signs of the issue.

That's the exact kind of thing I'm looking for, thank you. From what I was able to find via googling, it would appear that issue isn't too common and is covered by the manufacturers warranty. I plan on getting a low mileage one that still has coverage, possibly CPO as well if I can find it for the exact car I want.

Cheers!

Welcome to Nico...I made the same move from a 5 series to an 06 Sport Coupe. I have had her for 18 months and have had no issues with oil consumption. I have the maintence done at a INDY and have them use a full synthetic every 5K.

The only issue I had was with brakes. They started squeaking at 20K miles and had another 10K on the pads. Infiniti said they truned the rotors and replaced the pads in the rear, but the noise would not go away. I finally just took it to my INDY and had them replace the pads and tunr the rotors. Noise is gone. Tells me the dealer did not do anything.

All in all, if you are looking at a more reliable fast little sports car (better gas milage then the 545) you will be happy. Good luck and happy hunting.

xjay, Thanks for the reply. Any particular reason you got rid of your 5? I'm keeping mine, I love it too much to part with it, and it's great for long drives and still goes like a mofo (0-60mph in 5.5s ain't too shabby for a big car like that). That said, I have always loved the g35 coupes and can't wait to climb into one of my own.

sotech, there are several "gotchas" that you should look out for when purchasing a G35 coupe. What year(s) are you looking at specifically?

Interior-wise, you'll find that the driver's seat may make noise or move back/forward under acceleration or turning. There is also a common issue of having a tear in the driver's seat cushion trim in the door-facing corner (caused by a sharp metal edge below the cushion).

As for the engine, and as RED_DET previously mentioned, there is an issue with oil consumption. The oil consumption is present mainly in G35 coupes built on or before May 29th, 2007 (the production date can be found on the identification label in the driver's door jam), as mentioned in Infiniti's TSB. Also, a "ticking noise" from the engine compartment has been known to occur when the vehicle is in idle.

"Gotta-haves" — Since your looking for a pre-owned vehicle, I'll give you my spiel about Certified Pre-Owned vehicles!

I always recommend every potential Infiniti purchaser to utilize Infiniti's Certified Pre-Owned search, available here. Each vehicle listed in that search will come with a guarantee and insurance of good standing title, 145-point vehicle check, “Basic” and “Powertrain” Warranty up to 72 months from the original in-service date or 100,000 total-vehicle-miles, and roadside benefits. The guarantee and security of knowing that the vehicle that you're purchasing is properly inspected and warrantied is one that can't be beat by non-Infiniti Dealerships.

If you're one who would be worried and turned away from my list of "gotchas" above, then fear no more! The extended warranty that comes every Certified Pre-Owned Infiniti vehicle provides coverage and free repair for all the aforementioned issues (+ deductible).
I'll bet Sotech is glad you locked and eliminated my posts..............what at tool you are :whereisthedouchebagicon?:.........I thought this forum was a member information depository.........Only positive comments allowed I see though.....You can't lock all the forums............Run Sotech, Lineboy and Infiniti both could care less about their customers..........

Thanks for the link, that seems pretty useful, though I only found one within 200 miles of me. As I mentioned upthread though, I'm not pulling the trigger until sometime early next year or spring, so there is plenty of time to be patient. Ideally I would like an '06+ g35 coupe, automatic, with as many options as I can get it with, heh. I'll post more as I get closer to G-day.
