Hello, everyone! New member benj03G35sedan signing on. I live in the DC area and drive a 2003 G35 sedan (hence the username). Looking forward to getting lots of info on this site.
Now for my first question: a local dealer recently told me I have a short internal to my factory radio (with Bose) that's draining my battery even when the ignition is off. He quoted me a cost of $2400 to replace. I didn't want to pay that much if I can get an aftermarket unit installed for less.
I have read on this forum that the factory radio is integrated with the a/c controls (and verified this cause I pull the fuse for the radio if I let the car sit for any length of time). I've also read that if I go aftermarket I may need a new front cover, new a/c controller, and new mounting bracket. But what other things should I watch out for - like will I be able to use the factory amp with the aftermarket radio, do I need special wiring harnesses, etc.? Also, can anyone recommend a good and reputable sound system installer in the DC/Northern Virgnia area?
Your guidance and information is much appreciated. Thanks!
