Post

Hello to the members of Nico. Figured I'd introduce myself, my name's Joe, from all over the United States. Currently in Iraq with the US Army.

I bought my first Nissan (S13 Coupe) a long time ago from this website, so while I wasn't really an active poster, visited the NICO forums quite often for a long time.

Anyway, I know this is my introductory post, but I did have a couple questions for the experts:

1) As mentioned I don't have a Z yet, but once I get back to the US I am going to buy one. Any advice on a year / trim? I've searched this forum to the best of my searching ability *maybe I suck at it?* for all of the well known issues across the Z33 generations, and I'm thinking an '06 Grand Touring might be my best bet? I've always wanted a Track Edition though, and loved the Brickyard coloring on the originals, but with their transmission problems I'm kind of scared to go for an older car. I'll be looking to spend 20,000 at the most, before tax and title and all that crap. What are your thoughts?

2) Secondly, are there any other serious/common issues that I should be aware of when shopping for my new baby? I've read just about everything I could find on the 001-008 transmission, the window motors, feathering, crappy cup holders and a few other things, but any advice is welcome. I tried googling "Known Issues 350Z" and didn't really come up with anything new.

Thanks in advance, and hopefully my stay at NICO will be long and enjoyable, and you vets can guide me through the first years of my Z addiction. (I skipped right past denial, I already know this initial post will be the start of a long, expensive habit)

Welcome!!!

You have good questions. To better help you. Let me ask you a couple of things so our fellow members can better guide you. What are your plans with the car? Do you plan on keeping it stock or modifying it? If you plan to "fix-up" your car. How far are you willing to go? Turbo, Supercharger. There are numerous knowledgable people here that can help.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I suppose it would help to state my intent...

No car of mine can ever go unmodified =) I suppose I should note that I am an Army mechanic, and I like to go fast. . .around apexes!

An all-motor build over time will most likely be what happens. Start with the bolt-ons and "easy" stuff. Which will over the course of a year or two, really make me want to get serious, then it'll be one of those stories in any Source Interlink owned magazine - where it wasn't enough and the car had to be torn apart and rebuilt from the ground up =)

She'll be a DD, weekend track queen. So fast and pretty, but streetable.

My style is clean cars...clean clean clean. No obnoxious s*** sees my rides, and I'm really anal about what I upgrade with, I can't just go to Advance Auto and buy an APC air filter or some random s*** from ebay that claims +50 hp to the crank.

Hope that helps give you an idea of who I am and what I want to do with my future Z =)

Hmmm I made this sig a long time ago. . .I suppose it should say "Queen" eh?
