Hey Guys,

I just picked up an 09 black on black M35 with sport package, technology package, and rear deck spoiler. I'm glad I found this forum.

Black is such an awesome color. And in my crusade against swirl marks, Ill point you to a thread which shows the perils of automatic car washes and black cars.

Congrats on your new car. I had a black car before, and yes, you must take special care to avoid swirl marks.

Thanks for the welcomes. Don't even get me started with the black plaint and swirl marks, LOL!! I have been a BMW guy for well over 8 years and honestly their metallic black did not swirl up at all. SO here I am taking a close look at my car after washing it and BAM, swirl marks already. Now mind you that the car is literally off of the showroom floor just a week ago. So anyway after somewhat regretting the fact that I bought a non metallic black car, I waxed it with some Carnauba Wax and it looked ok.

Hello

You will need more than carnauba wax to keep it from looking a mess. If you notice those swirls after 1 wash...... Oh my! Carnubeau will loose its luster after a good cruise down the freeway at 85mph. Infiniti paint is very soft, especially on the newer infinitis (06-current) I wish infiniti would have invested in the ceramiclear coat like the newer Benz cars (2004 & up). Thatceramiclear is bullet proof damn near, but my 03 black M has been good to me but I'm all over my black paint every weekend. I recommend you throw away all that store bought stuff and look into some 3m swirl remover polish (pt num 06064), poor boys sealant, poor boys black hole glaze, and some poor boys blue paste wax. Also, invest in a good polisher with the colored pads (orange, white, grey, blue, etc.) Do not attempt to do this work by hand.

this is the poor boys product line that work well for my black Mhttp://www.autogeek.net/poorboysworld.html

Hello and thanks for the insight. I already own a PC polisher and I use p21s wax but I will definitely pick up some more 3m swirl remover polish and the other things you mentioned. Thanks again.

So what does the "Hard clear coat" sticker under the hood of our cars mean?

Good question, but I promise you that it isnt as hard as it claims to be. Like I mentioned earlier... the newer infinitis (06-current) went backwards in their paint and clear coat technique. I pass by the Infiniti dealer here in town and I look closely at the black cars and say, "wow" swirls on 08-09 cars already. The european cars have the toughest coats in my opinion. Black is a tough color regardless, but with the right tools a products you will over come.

Cnote,

Sorry we got off topic Post some pics of the new ride.

Cosmetically I am not going to go crazy because I like the stock look but I am interested in some engine download/chip for some more power. Any suggestions?

P.S. - I actually wanted a white car like yours but they did not have one!! Looks great!!

HAHAHA Really i was looking for a black on black one!! wanna trade lolif you are going to chip it make sure you get it done right! i heard that chipping your car will sometimes interfere with other electrical components in your car! So be careful! if you want more power mid to high rpms get a cold air intake it helps and it sounds mean @ over 5000rpms! Anyways niiice ride bro!!latessteve
