Well first let me say that I am new to this fourm. I have heard about it and got info on Nico for years now and I thought it might be time to register. My current project is my 1995 Q45 which I have no idea in what direction Im going with it.

Current Mods and future mods (future as in as soon as I get my new trans in haha)
Kenwood head unit
TMA 6 1/2 w/crossover and 6X9 component speakers
2 Memphis 10's in seald box with 1000 watt TMA amp
Peral White 18X9.5 Advan VS5's
Godspeed Z32 Coilovers(Not installed write up coming soon)
Z32 30mm Aluminum calipers Fron and Rear Stainless Steel lines cross/drilled rotors(Not installed write up coming soon)

Now on to my front speaker mod.

As most of you know the front door speakers in our G50's ( well at least in mine ) is 4 inch Bose speakrs in a plastic box with the built in amps. Which sound good but if you are like me and like to listen to your music loud then you know the factory bose speakers dont really like that.

Most of the reason I decided to replace all my speakers is both rear speakers were blown when I purchased the car and I had all the speakers and amps from my last car so why not use it.

I replaced the rear speakers with some TMA 6X9's and the front speakers are TMA 6 1/2's with crossover. For now the speakers are run through the factory wiring until I finsh my trans but it will be ran to either a Jenson or TMA 4 channel amp

No in order to fit the 6 1/2's up front I started off by removing the door panel and the factory speaker box.

With all that out of the way it was time to make cover to mount your new speaker.

I used cardbord to make the shape that I wanted

From there I transferd the shap to 1/4 MDF and cut it out, after that I drilled out the holes and mounted it to make sure it fit well, I used the factory speaker box bolt holes to mount it

After that it was time for wiring I decided to keep the Bose tweeters but I would need to tap into the wiring so I could run that to the crossover which I mounted inside the door. From there the speaker and the imput ( which would be the factory door wiring for now) would need to be ran.

Once you are done with that you can take your new cover and cut out a hole to mount your speaker the best thing about this is u can use whatever size speaker you want as long as you can clear the window I had the 6 1/2's so I used them but even if I didnt have them I still would have went with 6 1/2's

Next screw the speaker to the cover and mount it to the door then re-install the door panel and enjoy

I will have more pics up tomarrow

WELCOME TO NICO!

Cool article! You should start selling mounting covers.

I installed 4 additional layers of sound deadening material in the doors of my 91.

In addition to reducing the noise level, it helps the A/C keep the car cooler.

I'd buy a pair for my '94 if the price is reasonable. I'd prefer 5/32 or 3/8" MDF as I will be running MB Quart 6 1/2's with plenty o' power.
How's $50 shipped sound?

I am planning on picking up some thicker MDF to make an amp rack so I can make you a set.
$50 shipped sound good to me. I will PM you sometime with in the week and send you some pics of the cover.

Depending on how the thicker version comes out and if there is enough demand I will make a few more.

I cant decide if I want to dyno mat a few spots or not I am going to run all the wiring for the 4ch amp this week while I wait 4 my new trans so I might throw a few sheets in.

The new set up sound way better than the Bose but the rears are louder cause they are hooked up to the Bose amps and the fronts are not but I can turn the stereo up all the way and its way loud and clear no distortion even with the bass, mid, and treb turned up all the way so the amp should even it out and hopefully I can get even more out of the speakers. Sadly my subs are blown and I cant decide to get 2 10in P3 punch shallow mounts and make custom boxes or 2 10in p2 punch subs in a ported box.

Also on my coilovers I need to get the top hats off the stock rear shock but I dont have a spring compressor to safely remove it. I was woundering if I cut the spring with a grinder will the parts I cut out shoot off or should I just try to find someone to take the hats off for me.
I dont have a car now so it is a pain in the a** to get around and find someone to do that I also need to find a drill press and a big enough bit to drill out the lower mount on the front coilover which is why I am lagging on getting them done.

:welcome: to NICO! Nothing like a how-to thread out of the gate!

Keep in mind that AutoZone and other parts places have spring compressors available as loaner tools. I find them to be of pretty good quality - probably for liability reasons - so I just use those. I definitely would not cut the springs while they're compressed!

Well im off to autozone hopefully I can get the rears on today I will take some pics if I can
