I'm brand new to this forum, but it looks great and I've got a lot of reading to do. I've owned four G35's (still own two - 2 - 2003's, a 2005 AWD and now a 2007 G35X) . In my pre-Infiniti days I had a BMW 540i that almost bankrupt me with repairs. Cured my butt forever as the G's have been great, great cars. I have a couple of questions regarding the 2007 as I have a dealer here in Connecticut that has more bull____ that a Christmas goose and cannot be trusted for an honest answer:

1) Does your cruise control jerk the car when going down long hills at 70 to 80 mph? It almost feels like it's hitting the brakes (hard) to keep the speed at the set speed. I do not have the Technology Pkg. My 2005 and 2003 G35's did not do this. My dealer tells me it's normal.

2) Do you find that the power band is almost better at 2/3 or 3/4 throttle than it is at WOT (wide open throttle)? I had the valve timing software upgrade done, but it only partially helped. (that was after I got my butt dusted by an Acura TSX) I'm not as impressed with the 306 HP as I thought I would be. My dealer says I have to totally rethink everything I knew about the G's acceleration as it's radically different for 2007.

3) Is there any noticeable improvement in the seat of your pants by changing over to the K&N air filters? Since there are now two, it may be worth changing as you can wash the K&N's.

4) In stop and go commuter traffic, does anyone else notice the accelerator is sometimes very jerky? Most of the time it's fine, but it gets in moods where just a touch on the pedal will seem to launch the car. (normal per my dealer)

Thanks for any feedback and I look forward to reading the others.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us here.

I can answer some of your questions, others can help with the rest.

The cruise control. Mine did when it was new, but it has gotten better with time. When going down a hill that you would otherwise coast down it is a little jerky, but not as bad as it was.

I take it you have a 5AT. The secret to the 5AT is the DS (manual) mode. In the DS mode the car runs very differently. I don't really get on mine all that much except for accelerating onto the freeway, and DS mode is day and night different.

The accelerator isn't jerky, it is just a touch you haven't developed yet. It is pretty smooth really. Drive by wire has it's drawbacks and overly touchy is one.

Maybe others can add to this for you too.

Welcome to NICO.

Hey Bentrod, Welcome to Nicoclub!

As a seasoned G35 owner, you should know that the G has some quirks that are different from any other car. The new model G though does have a totally different feel than previous model years. I'm sorry that your dealer isn't shooting you straight... you might want to talk to their manager or the owner if you feel your getting jerked around.

When I first bought my G, I noticed the same things that you did. You are correct that the cruise control jerks a bit when going down a hill. It's my understanding that this is due to the electronic brake assist... whenever you let off the accelerator, the braking system on the new G primes the brakes and squeezes the calipers to minimize the braking distance. I'm not a fan of this system, but it's supposed to shorten your reaction time. Depending on how many miles you have on your new beast, I've heard that you shouldn't even use the cruise control for at least the first 1000 miles of the break in period.

As far as the 3/4 throttle being faster... I don't know about that... I have a Gtech G force meter and accelerometer and I've always had my fastest times with the hammer down. I also have the Fujita short ram intake, so I'm getting a lot more air in the engine than the stock filters.

The jerky accelerator is something that you'll just get used to... you have to adjust your driving habits a bit... I've found that if you use your entire foot to depress the accelerator instead of just your toe, then you get a more uniform and less jerky acceleration. It will come to you grasshopper, just be patient. Everyone who drives my car for the first time does the frog hop when they first take off... just takes a little practice.

Good luck and congratulations on your new beauty!

Welcome again!Dave

I do the same thing. I've had to move my seat up more than I have in other cars. But it makes a world of a difference using the entire foot. My brothers always complain how I sit so close when they drive my car.

I wasn't particularly happy with the throttle sensitivity in the 07 loaner that I drove either. My coupe's response is crisp seems to give me consistent pressure, the 07 sedan's was soft, then harder, then softer IIRC.

There is a TSB for that. It is for the ICC but I heard people asked for the flash and it was better. Personally I only used it once when I bought the car to see if it works or not.

If you go and ask your dealer to put the 08 g35 ECU flash in your car it will be smoother.

You are right about the power band. Here is what I think you have to do. Recently my wife was driving the car first for a day. I got the car back and it was nolicable different. Felt slower. I thought maybe my brain playing with me. Then she was driving it for a week. Got the G back and felt like a totally different car. She drives very slow no acceleration.

With the G you either driving like a maniac and it will go if you are in D,DS or manual no matter what. If you drive like my wife then you should use the manual shifting whenever you have to accelerate.

I think that is the reason why some people losing to car like they should not. It is noticable. It took me a whole thank of gas to get the G back to where it was.

Side note. My wife gets 20+mpg in city I get 13. I think that explains the different between her and me.

zozo

I hope it helps.

Thanks so much - you were a great help. I always assumed that DS just kept it out of overdrive and have not used it. Gave it a blast this morning and you are right on, my friend. Big difference. You put a smilr on an old mans face....

Dave, absolutely great feedback. thanks so much. I was remiss in my description of the "frogging" in that I'm pretty sure it's transmission related and not the electronic accelerator pedal. It acts like it's between gears and steps down. I've had the transmission program cleared, but no help. The transmission is fiine, it's the computer shifting IMHO. Hey all in all, I'll never own anything but an Infiniti warts and all. Thanks again
