hi, my names kregg and im new to this site. im also newe to the nissan scene, ive been doing the import thing for a while but i was on the dark side for a while, but i finally got a 240 and so far i really like it. i got a 91se coupe about two weeks ago, traded it for a civ hatch.. it has 110k on it and its pritty much stock with a bangerd up quater. the bad part is that it has a 2.4 dohc ith an auto, i was looking for advice as to what i should do, i want to swap in a sr but a few friends tell me i should do a fivespeed swap, should i wait to do the swap when i get the sr and transmission? and fix the body now... any advice would be great. and ill post some pics the next day or so.

CA18DET, you can get them for about 900-1100 bucks with trans.

But I think I would swap the 5 speed in for now, 110K is low for a KA from 1991. Just swap it, give her a full tune up and TLC and then mod as needed.

Welcome to nico! It's all up to what you want to do if you have the money and can get a SR or a CA then I would go for it and just get the pieces to convert to 5 speed.I like the ca18det idea!Good luck with everything!

why does it look like the front is lower then the rear?

and if you want a new engine then there is no point in doing the 5 speed swap, but for more info search

why swap the twin cam, when you can boost it as well for kicks. my advice to you is to set realistic goals. plan out how much power you want to put down. then, go from there. any motor is capable of reaching a lot of power when you have money to burn.

he needs the supporting modification anyway: hydro lines, clutch master cylinder and slave, clutch pedal, and interior trim. etc...

Nice trade man But I think you should do the 5-speed swap now and the CA18 is a good Idea

But don't get an SR I don't like them to much in my opinion, everybody has one. But it's up to you man

Or you could always go KA-T

IMO, I would do 5 speed swap and body work. Then before anything else, buy a nice set of coils and maybe some RUCA's and tie rods, be sure that the suspension is tight and up to par, then look for more power with either a swap or KA-T if you want to save money. And the KA-T can be a tourque monster.

for a ca18 ur gona need the transmission that goes with it. or atleast the bellhousing. so itl be alot better to do the trans and engine at same time so you dont have to mess with the trans again later.

thanks for all the advice so far, and it is lower in the front because the guy that had it before had some off brand spring's and only put them on the front and i havent put the ones on the back yet... I'm not going to start tearing this thing apart just yet but the front end sus feels loose so gona figurethat out and throw the springs on the back. im still on the fence about the motor thing i found a ca18det with a transmission for like 1100 with 30k and theyd bring it to my house, but the ka thats in it just had a bunch of s**** replaced on it so its in really good shape no leaks and dosent burn. i looked in to all the stuff id need to do the swap and i think it would be easier for me to find a 5speed parts car and go that way, then id have a few extra parts aroud the house..

the cars got some potential man, i myself came over from the dark side about 2 years ago lol. had my first wreck within the first month of not knowing how to drive a rwd in the rain, and that was in florida! but now that im back in oregon ive got it down, i say swap in a 5spd and weld the s*** outta ur diff. 110k is pretty sweet for the motor, i just hit 198k (still runnin good, burns a lil tho). imo i say...

-5spd swap

-welded diff

-coilovers

-and save money towards whatever

thats what im doing, this way you still have a decent motor to drive around on, no worries to if its gonna break or not, and you get to think more and do more research on what to do. i thought i wanted to do an SR swap when i got it. and after awhile of thinking ive decided to save up, rebuild my motor, and build up a sweet KA-T. But whatever u decide man im sure youll like it! i love my nissan better than anyother honda ive ever owned. ill b watchin this page, you should make it a build thread!!

i will turn this in to my build thread, i plan on welding the diff any one had any major problems with a welded diff other than tires and the constant spinout factor??? i used to have a camaro with lsd so the rwd isent totally new turf, a lot lighter car tho. what are the small stuffthat id never know id need for the 5spd conversion, like any plugs? bolts? harness? etc?? thanks

both the sr and ca are easy installsim installing my ca right nowcant wait till its done

as for your quarter panel, i say just leave it or get it fixedif your focused on your engine then the wheels will wait a lil biti dont think you want your wheels sunk in like thatit would look gooofy

welcome to nico, ya id have to agree with the 5speed swap and body. Then after you can ride on it daily getting the feeling of stock 5speed while you have time to search up some info on what swap you want to do.

*Advice*, when u do your swap dont forget to invest in some braking power so you dont destroy your build when you get it out of the garage

Welcome to Nico!

I'd say do a 5-speed swap and keep the ka. You can always turbo it if you want more power.2.0 liter motor swap is a downgrade.

Oh and you should trade front turn signals with me. I've got the better looking all orange ones

Check the breather tube for cracks and holes. Its the tube that runs from the valve cover to the intake manifold inlet. I had a small hole on mine and it woud act like it wanted to stal until it got warm then it was fine.

Hope it helps. Just a suggestion.
