I'm new to the nissan family. I've been reading thru the forums for a while and decided to create an account & post a topic to see if anyone can help.I just got a 2008 Altima sedan 3.5SE a week ago and noticed an odd noise the 2nd day. When the car is put into drive and before reaching 10mph there is a noise of a gear slipping. My car is an automatic but the only way I can describe the noise is it sounds like when driving a manual and shifting into a gear the gear slips. I asked the dealer about this and they say its normal on the altimas and maximas. However, i don't recall hearing this noise when test driving the same model altima at another dealership before buying the one i have now. Anyone else experienced this?

Welcome to the forum, you will find a lot of useful information here.

I assume you have the CVT transmission. My coupe has the CVT transmission and I have never heard of the noise that you've mentioned.

Try to take it to another dealer and see what they say.

have no fear, NICO's here... actually that is not a problem...its your ABS, it does that. there are several post on this particular matter and was also addressed at the dealer and was diagnosed as the ABS system. so just read the previous posts cause it does help and it can also save you time.

Listen closely and you'll hear it, unless your car isn't equipped with ABS then I guess you wont hear it.

Yes, it is probably the ABS, and all the Altima's make that sound. It's usually a light thunk sound/feel within the first 15-20 ft of driving after a long sit.
