How much is MAF to replace for 91 G50? Mine has been sputtering occassionally. After reading about similar problems with other owners I think I may have this problem. THX

About $575 at your local Infiniti stealership.

About $460 from one of our sponsors, InfinitiPartsUSA (aka Infiniti of Scottsdale)

About $50-$70 for a used MAF through one of the members in the Infiniti Parts forum.

I don't think I'll be buying a new MAF any time soon.

Don't assume that used units are all ok, as they may be problem units that somehow didn't get dealer trashed but got recirculated since they are difficult to check if hot/cold intermitent.

Be careful and never assume used are perfect............you can end up chasing your tail with used unless you have a known good Q to double check MAF by substitution.

Same with CAS, ECU, and other modules that show up on Ebay.

I just CRC'd mine (see MAS thread) and replaced the air filter. Its is a NEW car. I bought this one over the summer and it never ran right. I thought it was just a Q to Q variation thing. Its gas milage was not as good as my other Qs and it did not seen as peppy. When it got cold it needed 15 minutes to fully warm up. My tech thought it could be a bad vacume hose or dirty injectors. I was just about to take it to the dealer for a full diagnostic when I thought I should give it a last all out try with cleaning the MAS. I even bought a used one off ebay in case I screwed it up.

The car also had an iffy MAS connector that I cleaned like five times. I finally just clipped it off and soldered on new clips from my electronic parts bin-this was a great help but did not fully solve the problem.

I spayed the MAS and let it dry for one hour. This was the fix!!!!

Thanks to this board my car is running great! I read elsewhere you can soak them in white vinager-just the sensor end. It was on a Toyota board.

I thought that was a little drastic.

Try cleaning it with CRC before anything else.

Peter

Acetic Acid [vinegar] or any acid would be the last thing one should use.

Acids attack and combine with most metals = Copper Acetate

http://car-part.com has used MAFs, referred to as "air flow sensor"

Worth it to buy a couple and just keep them on the shelf. My Q is running beautifully, but I decided to stock up on about $600 worth of parts in case of a rainy day.

http://www.q45.org/maf.html -- Cleaning instructions. Kevin Falk said there's a MAF-specific cleaner out now.
