Hi guys,
I recently installed a new MAF (original Nissan part) for my 2001 2WD 3.5L Pathy, after cleaning the throttle body and installing a new air filter. Then I went through the idle relearning instructions (twice), but my problem is that the idle is too high (about 900 rpm) in park. If I put it into drive it will fall to around the 750-800 rpm mark. I have checked all the vacuum lines (twice) and everything is okay. Anyone have any ideas? Oh yeah, the MAF came with a little paper wwarning sheet stating that it requires reprogramming of the ECU at a dealers. Is that actually necessary? Would that clear up the problem?
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on the matter!

I hope you didn't pay $442 or whatever it costs for an OEM Pathfinder MAF when an $89 Maxima MAF will work just fine.

I know there's an ECU reprogramming to fix something with O2 sensors after replacement, but I haven't seen a TSB for reprogramming after MAF sensor replacement. I've heard it mentioned, though. Read here, it mentions that no reprogramming is needed, at least for a Maxima MAF. Maybe you should take that paper you got in the box to your local dealer, see what the service adviser says.

Thanks for the quick reply, and no I didn't buy the original Pathy MAF as here in Mexico it costs an incredible $800 US!!!! I got the 22680-2Y001 for the Maximum, for less than $100 US shipped. The note states that you have to refer to TSB NTB01-036/ITB01-029 for the special ECM ID code that must be entered in the ASIST ECM Data screen to download the correct data.
I'm just doubting that the techs at the dealers here will even understand what I'm on about if I try and explain it to them, and much less actually have the equipment to perform the reflash! I'll let you know how I get on in a few days!

I can't find that TSB online. I guess you gotta try the dealer.

EDIT: Here's the "ECM REPROGRAMMING" TSB I mentioned: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EK2GXRO0

My service adviser said that it was for O2 sensors, but maybe present this TSB to your dealer anyway.

I think 800 - 900rpm is normal. I had the maxima maf installed not 2 long ago without ecu reprogram. my qx4 idle is around 800-900rpm

The FSM says that idle for VQ35DE is 750 RPM +/- 50 RPM for both manual and automatic transmissions (for A/T, in the "N" position). My R50 idles at about 750RPM in Park. Original MAF.

The old MAF (when it was OK) idled at 750 rpm in Park, the new one is at around 900 rpm in Park, although it falls to 750 in Drive. I'll check that TSB and take it to the dealer. Thanks again guys for your help!
