Hello,

I have been lurking for the past two weeks and have only posted a photo or two so far.

I want to start by saying I have so very happy with my M, and I am really glad I got this car.

Its black/black with 34k miles and heated/cooled seats with the lighter wood and no Nav. I am so happy with it!!

Anway, on to my question. I just went to my local infiniti dealer to get some scheduled maintenence and pick a part up, and I just checked my service history.

--- 11/15/06 ---- ODO: 30,473 (< 4k miles ago).

-- MISC - ENGINE MECHANICALCHECK FOR NO START CONDITION.FOUND TIMING CHAIN GUIDES SNAPPED CLOGGED PICK UP,STARVED ENGINE. CRANKSHAFT SCORED,HEADS DAMAGED, **** REPLACED LONGBLOCK ****

Hmmm... I know of the known issues...but should I be happy about this?? Looks like I just gave the motor its 1st oil change last weekend!

Yikes!

Certainly looks like you got a new engine in there ... the previous owner probably did not do an oil change, or ran it dry without checking at all. My concern would be about the rest of the car too.

You should consider replacing fluids in the car. Like the transmission ATF, etc. (using Fluid J), and others. These are not as destructive as the engine oil problem, but does seem like the car was not treated well at all.

A reminder to everybody: you must ask for the service history on every Infiniti before you buy the car!

If I had seen this info, I am not sure I would have bought the car, or certainly I would negotiate for lots of free service (like a transmission flush, etc.) from the dealer.

P.S. Welcome to NICO!

Hey thank you for the info

As a matter of fact, the car is in perfect shape in and out (and clean 1 owner carfax), and the owner actually went in for a consumption test the year before, but I suppose it checked out at that time. I dont know why he let it go so long however, but seemed to go to the Infiniti dealer for everything judging by the history.

After some searching, I found that people have had this problem with very few miles. A G35 owner posted that he had the longblock swaped with only 3k on the car, and then once again after that, so maybe it is not always due to a lack of maintenance?

Here's hoping... maybe a new engine could be a good thing if the rest of the car is fine. The body and interior are perfect so I hope that is an indicator.

I will take the advise on the fluids and do that now.thanks again!

Ive seen cases when the owner/driver of the car, especially lease cars, will notice they have a problem such as oil consumption and when they take it to get it checked out the dealer tells them that the leakage/burnage of the oil is "within factory spec at this time" and they figure that they might as well just drive the car into the ground because they feel neglected by the dealership and they figure they wont have the car much longer anyway. Not necessarily the case here but Ive seen it happen.cheers
