I know most of you hate Lexus for whatever reason, but OMG this new LS is unreal. In yesterdays L.A. Times Highway 1 section (every Wed's in the Times) they featured it. The back seat of the "L" (long wheelbase) model is almost like a Maybach. It's got massaging seats, a leg rest that almost goes flat like a Barca lounger, a mini fridge, 4 way climate control (infrared camera measures backseat pass. body temps) and 5 powered sunshades. Unreal car, and "only" around 90k for the LS 460 L model. Considering what you get that seems almost cheap. If only Infiniti comes out with its next Q and it makes it anywhere close to this! I know Nissan/Infiniti can do it, but will they?

0-60 in 5.6 seconds198 and 202" wheelbases8 speed auto (a world first)

Auto Couture has already taken one and made it even nicer.*lust below

Sigh, if only the Y33 was about 4" longer.

Only 90K, you say ... let's see ... how many years to depreciate to affordable ... *sigh*

I don't quite understand the overall disdain for Lexus either, beyond the "general concensus" that it's boring?!?! I've neevr been in one, but I chased many LS400's down the Jersey turnpike doing triple digit speeds in the early 90's.

I like the looks of the new LS460, and I always liked the looks of the GS's. Be interesting to see what the ones that make it to the show room look like, but I have to say, Lexus seems to be heading straight after MB ... wonder if they'll accomplish what they're after or if they should just focus on being what they are - the leading Asian Luxury mass market auto maker.

Maybe 15 years from now? lol

They're about 7 miles from my house in this Navi shot here, lol, just hit the 110 South, take Pacific Coast Highway West and you're almost there! Of course, Toyota's US headquarters (and Honda, and currently but soon to move East Nissan) are all in the 405 & 110 intersection area.

LS460 is sechs.

I have no distaste for Lexus, but I dislike many of the owners.

Lexus has made some great cars:

-LS400 (bland, but still very nice)-Original IS300-GS430-SC400 & SC300 5spd

Interesting wheel, headlight, foglight, bodykit, and quad tail pipe mods on the one falk put up compared to the one on the link that 96Q put up.

I agree it's a steal compared to the 350+k you have to spend for the Maybach.

The headlights are actually stock. You can tell that's why Auto Couture did the quad tail pipes and the ovals and wide ovals on the body kit.

LOVE this side shot. This is the L version:

And 350hp mated to an 8-speed? ... zoom, zoom, zoom! Speed limited to 130, though - hmph, wusses.

no wonder the q45 is silently being dropped,it looks like an economy car{ esp. inside} compared to the new ls 460 how did infiniti fail to evolve the q to ls standards?

On that shot the head lights do look the same.

On this one though they look different, I guess it's the angle.

The headlights on the Auto-Couture modded UF40 are standard equipment on the LS 600h L. They could possibly be an option on the LS 460, but if not they definitely could be swapped.

Lexus is changing for the better. What the HELL took them so long! An amazing, impressive, and oustanding replacement for the turdball LS430.

The body is indeed a German ripoff, but like the LS400, its a pleasant (if a bit dulled) ripoff.

I read something about 19 speakers from a 540 watt system, and infrared sensors to determine how much AC/heat to direct to each person in the vehicle.

[The Lexus hate comes from previous full-size Lexuses, which were gay and boring, unlike this one.]

Ah Christ, the thing actually parks itself, too.

"Most interesting of its many gadgets is the standard Advanced Parking Guidance System, a technically gifted system for those not-so-technically gifted drivers that think that parallel parking “is what the bumpers are for.” To use APGS, all any dimwitted driver needs to do is position the car within the rearview camera’s view and identify the destination parking spot on the dashboard screen. Then, using the rearview camera, parking sensors, and electric power steering, the car parks itself; the driver controls speed with the brake. No word yet on how fast the LS will park itself, and we’ll have to test its ability to negotiate errant shopping carts, careless pedestrians and snow drifts."

That's very nice car $90k is LOTS of money for a car and there's lot of other cars to choose if I was rich enough to spend that much money. One reason I'm sticking with Japanese car is for their reliability. If that is not a facotr in purchasing a car, I would take any of these babies.

I don't see any German, I see pure JDM influence in it's body design. It looks nothing like a 7 series or an S class Benzo. It looks very Japanese to me, head to tail.

The stereo is 18 speakers I believe, and I also mentioned the Infrared cameras that monitor backseat passenger body heat.

I happen to feel that all LS models have been very nice cars, if a tad bland, but I like the current LS personally.

The Audi A8 lwb is a very nice car, but it can't compare in creature comforts for backseat passengers to the 460L, and it costs more money than the 460L. The new S class is ugly IMO, and the current 7 series is boring after only a few years in production.

I assume it has the Lexus/Toyota oppressive stability and traction program?

I dont understand the need or want for all the hi tech bs.

Give me a f'ing car that i can toss sideways if need be. We have enough govt in our lives, I dont need them as a passenge too.

(BTW I cant afford technology anyways)

It is a very good looking ride though...

90,000 warrants a better 0-60 imo

I think the "german" that everyone is seeing is the front fender and it's flare. The wheels are noticely BMW-ish. Other than that, the entire car is JDM in feel also.

This is one SICK ride....if I could afford it, I would own it.

Check out Autoweek and C&D for the one you can buy.

C&D has the new G35 also.

Still waiting for 42V electrical system, though. Sigh.

Lexus isn't exactly boring. Maybe it's borng because you never need to bring it in the shop? If I could have found one, I would have taken a late 90s SC400 over the Q45 in a heartbeat. Lexus build quality > *. They have been focused on build quality for a long time now, hence their first place spot with reliability for the last decade or so.

If they were heading towards the MB route, they would have merged with GM long ago....

I'm smelling a lot of " 'more', for the sake of 'more' "...

It doesn't take 8 forward speeds to get to 60 in 5.6 seconds -Ditto for 18 speakers re: excellent sound and 5 sunshades re: good visibility.

As for the styling, it looks a lot like a fat Camry.

You must mean body length....I thought "wow, that's a really long wheelbase considering that my F50 is 113" and the long wheelbase Maybach is 150", somehow it looks small in the pics..."

198" wheelbase would be this....

I never liked a car that was a copy of another. It shows a lack of talent when Toyota copies the basic shape from a BMW.

The last LS was a copy of a Benz S-class. The new one is styled after the 7 series.

Here's the new LS and the BMW 7 series:

Alright, here's the New LS overlayed on the BMW 7 series. What are the chances that Toyota accidently copied the exact profile of the 7 series?

Lexus = Lesux.

Agreed. I don't really like it. The fascia (at both ends) is ugly. It's got the same pug nose, huge grille, and goofy headlight styling that made the old LS ugly. All Toyota and Lexus tail lights suck right now. I wholeheartedly agree that it looks like a fat Camry. It looks like it crashed into a wall as well. I don't like how the hood is raised above the fenders a-la Dodge pickup. The old LS looked "fat" to me and this one does, too.

The interior looks nice, but I absolutely hate wood trim...real or fake. It just screams "GRANDPA!".

I like the new GS a lot. But the IS and LS are unattractive.
