So for the last two days ive been working on my car almost non stop. Saturday I put on my lower grille.

Image

Please ignore the bugs. Had to drive friday night and think someone was shooting a bug machine gun at my car.

I painted it blue to go with the led back light i was putting behind it. Can be seen here

However not sure I like it to much. so will most likely make another and paint it black. I also got the switch ready to be wired to turn on and off the under glow and back light.

goes in the empty spot to the far right

had the led installed to let me know if it was on since there is no dummy bell for this switch. but led actually caught fire and melted the inside of the bulb. make sure to put a resistor on the bulb if you do this. For now I wound up taking the bulb out and covering the hole with some electrical tape.

Today I wired up the and mounted all of the lights. all works great except for the driver side neon. I will have to check to see if its the wiring or the bulb that is the actual problem. This will most likely come next weekend as I work all week.

Be sure never to turn on the under glow on the street.

Lowes. was bout $8 for same size sheet as you got on youtube vid.

I was told before that blue lights were legal in TN as long as they are not flashing and you can't see the bulbs. Decided to ask again after I put them in to make sure before I get pulled over and found out blue lights are not street legal at all. $125 fine if caught. but its all good. that is why i put the switch in so that I can have them off on street and on at shows.

also just an update. i checked the driver side neon and found that i wired it wrong. positive into negative and negative into positive. huh wonder why it wont work. well feel like such an idiot. will fix this this weekend and hope that nothing went wrong with the bulb due to this error. also got to my car this morning and thought my battery was dead and was ready to tear whole installation out. but found out the battery cable was a little loose. that makes 3 screw ups on my part for this project ( if you count the led bulb for switch catching fire ) oh well all a learning experience.

blue looks ok. just think black will look better. gonna make a black one this weekend and see which one i like more. with such big sheet not like ill be wasting it to make another. also going to make one for my cousins versa too.

There were no home depot stores close to me. would have cost me more in gas to go there then it did for me to get this at lowes. still is def cheapest mod ever. so was under glow. everything for that cost me less than 50. already had the neon tubes from my car before i never got around to installing.

black is the way to go, especially on a black car. You won't notice it on there until it fills up with bugs (which happends quickly).

was this during the day? my car doesnt get too bad during the day but if i drive it at night the bugs seem to swarm the car. and to help they are not just small bugs either. the bugs down here are huge. one reason I try not to drive at night and love driving during rainy weather. cant wait for winter

just an update on the driver side neon. Got it wired correctly now and its working great. I painted a new lower grille and will be installing it as soon as I can get out and get some wire ties.

Here is a pic of my new lower grille in black

Image

Used some door edge guard from Advance to go around the edge so it doesn't cut or scratch the bumper any more than the last one did. was little over $3 a pack and i needed 2 packs to go around.

take the lower driver panel off (the big panel) and pop it out from the back. I think there are 3 screws on the bottom.

I just took out that single panel. to do it i took off the fuse cover and popped out the piece on the side from the back. i used the side to look in at the spot. I used a small flat head screwdriver and put it on the clip holding the piece in and pushed up. while pushing up on the clip i pushed in on the switch piece and presto. out came the switch piece.

If you are putting a switch in that piece like i did I found that the piece only goes into the clip one direction. as you can see in the pic above I was going to put a led bulb above the switch but when i put the piece back into the car the bulb had to go below the switch and had to turn the switch around. hope this helps.
