Typically the only pulleys that offer negitive affects are the ones the are a smaller size, because the pulley spins all the other pulleys at different speeds then they are designed for. one other downside can be that, if a vehicle has a lot of the crank balancing coming from the pulley, then by adding a aftermarket pulley that hasnt been specially balanced, will throw off the balance of the crank. This is pretty rare, seen most motor's cranks are balanced and dont rely on the pulley for balance, but some companys did it this way. The only other downside is that the quality of the idle my go down.williamk10 wrote:What does it do? I've heard positive and negitive things about lightweight pulleys
lol.... thats why i saved the stock piece.... besides that my warantee has long and gone....Ogden wrote:Also, watch you warrantees. Probably won't cause any issues, but it's one more thing for the dealer to blame any engine problems on. They still have to prove it, but...
In that case, since the Versa engine seems to be reliable, why mess with it? I am in the camp of "unless youre dumping more money into the motor than you bought the car for to begin with," leave motor stuff mostly alone. If youre going to build it from the block up into a race car, thats a different story.WORKS89 wrote:What you just said is partly true. Yes the OEM pulley is "usually very balanced" and a lot of times aftermarket ones are not as balanced, but sometimes OEM pulleys arent that balanced in the first place and some aftermarket companys make sure that there product is balanced. It all comes down to quality of both the OEM factory and the Aftermarket quality.
I dont know how balanced the Versa's pulley is from the factory, and I dont know how balanced these guy's pulley is so there is no way to know which is a more balanced pulley unless you have the spec on both....
Micro Mage has some cheap stuff for our Versa'ssuperskunk wrote: http://shop.microimageonline.c...Id=17
What experience are we talking about? I'm curious.feloniousmonk wrote:It's perfectly fine to underdrive accessory pulleys. Crank pulley is one I would not touch. The OEM one has a harmonic balancer built-in. Without it you can accelerate wear on the engine internals. If you plan on keeping the car a while, I'd leave the stock one alone. Power gain is minute.
Speaking from experience, but it's your car.
