palmerwmd - In your description of your car I noticed that you have new leather on your front seat(s). Is the leather from Infiniti or did you have covers made by an upholstery shop? Do you know if it is possible to get new leather seat covers from Infiniti for a 91 Q45? The only seat that shows any wear at all is the driver's seat. It is starting to show a few scrathes and small cracks in the surface leather. No tears yet. The others all still look like new and before too much longer I will probably want to get something for the driver's seat to match the rest of them if possible. Do you know how much Infiniti sells replacement covers for?

Thanks for any information.

1) It was done by an upholstery shop, we have a couple in town and one wanted $1300 for the following :driver and pasenegr seats almost completely (excepting the pass seat back which is fine) , plus the center armrest.the othe shop i found wanted only $900, which I felt was a good price including labor+leather.

They did a beautiful job, it looks factory, feels very nice and really dresses up the interior of the car.It was some of the best $900 I ever spent on my car.One of the things I like about new Infinti's is the perfect leather but once that new leather was in, they had nothing on my car in that dept.

2) yes.

3) No but it is <very> expensive; in the words of a local Infiniti service advisor , he can't be competitive with an upholstery shop in that area, (like almost all Inf service advisors, he's a pretty honest guy, when he says he's competitive in tires, he is, when he says he's not competive in new leather I also believe him)

Also, be advised at an upholstery shop you can have things done in portions.Lets say your driver seat bottom and the left lumbar need replacing, andupholstery shop can do just those components only realizing a very significant savings for you, over doing teh entire seat.

palmerwnd - From your response it seems that you are very satisfied with the way the seat cover replacement turned out and would recommend it if I can find a good upholstery shop. Was the shop able to get an exact match for the finish and feel of the leather as well as the color? I thought I would need to replace at least the complete seat cover. I wasn't aware that the shop would replace individual panels on a seat and match the original leather close enough that the seat looks like a new one. The only panels I really need to replace are the left side panel on the driver seat back and the left side panel on the driver seat bottom. Did you have any of the other seat parts like the cushions replaced?

Thanks much for the information.

1)Yes!2)yes, I ahd this done to 2 Q's of mine one with the infifnit dove grey leather and one with a hard to match creme color. The dove gray was matched perfect with the leather they ahd in stock. redying charge. The creme wa matched perfect as well but needed redyeing for an additonal $50 charge for redying.3) No need just do those portions that are beaten up, at worst your shop will have to dedye it to match it just right. The redying will incur an additonal charge but it wont be large enough to change the economics of the replacement. When my dove grey leather was done it was ever so slightyl a shde lghter but that might have been due to the fact that iut was new and clean more than anything. And even that difference (if indeed there was one to begin with, of which I am not certain), was only evident in direct sunlight when carefully comparing old and new and even then only barely and with much effort.

4) No, but I am cetain, that would not present a difficulty for any semi-comptetent upholstyery shop.

I don't know your location, but when purchasing my wife's Dodge 4 door 4x4 Dakota SLT, we were presented two options - Dodge leather interior, or less expensive far superior locally contracted leather. The local shop did the front and back seats for ~$1400. The leather was thicker, yet more supple, and seemed superior in every way to the Dodge leather that was several hundred dollars more expensive.

Mine looks terrible in the front seats.

I hope I get either a juicy raise or a lot of side work so that I can afford to replace the leather.
