Has anyone else heard about this? My friend at Firestone told me that any stanced car will not be street leagal if you can't fit a pack of cigs between your fender and tire sideways. I'm not sure the exact clearance this would be, I'm guessing an inch clearance.

I personally won't have a problem with this on my vehicle, just wanted to hear if anyone else in the NW can verify this.

Thanks guys.

It should be punishable to refer to your car as "stanced." Not the activity, the terminology. I don't care about peoples' stupid attempts at style, but they should be made to feel properly stupid and ostracized by the suppression of their lame vernacular.

I'm unaware of any new laws regarding it, but there seems to be an old vague law on the WA books...

RCW 46.61.680

Lowering passenger vehicle below legal clearance — Penalty.

It is unlawful to operate any passenger motor vehicle which has been modified from the original design so that any portion of such passenger vehicle other than the wheels has less clearance from the surface of a level roadway than the clearance between the roadway and the lowermost portion of any rim of any wheel the tire on which is in contact with such roadway.

Violation of the provisions of this section is a traffic infraction.

[1979 ex.s. c 136 § 90; 1961 c 151 § 1. Formerly RCW 46.56.220.]

That law makes sense to me, Bubba. Then again, I enjoy seeing stupid (the kind that lowers a street-intended car to below the bottom edge of the wheel rim) reward itself, so I'm okay without the law, too.

Thanks man, maybe they plan to enforce this more thoroughly now, and the cigaret clearance is just a baseline to hand out a ticket. Kinda like how most police won't pull you over unless your going more than 10 mph over.

Who knows though, stanced cars drive like crap, but there's alot of supporters in the NW with Stance Wars and other events like it. It will be interesting to see if they are forced to change their ways.
