Just ordered me a new laptop. Ordered it Monday morning. Checked and it shows shipped out today. Thank goodness for financing. $1483 after taxes and shipping cost.

It's a Dell Insipron 1150. Pentium IV 2.8, 512 on the ram, and a 40 gig hard drive. Windows XP pro. And I had to get the classic Atari games. I cant even remember 80 Atari games, but I ordered them anyway. :ylsuper

I should have that baby by Friday, or Saturday. This is cool, because my home computer is being fixed after that worm got me. Now I can actually play on the internet at home instead of doing it at work.

Gonna order me a USB floppy drive off Ebay. Can get a new Dell drive cheaper there than I can ordering it from Dell. Got a few more thing to get. Gonna visit the Best Buy or Office Depot to get some software. DeLorme Street atlas, never get lost again. And a few others.

So, what laptops are you guys running? Any cool software packages you running???

I'm in the market for a laptop but have 12 months before I need it. I figure I'll shop around for the best deal from now until then. What I really want is a light, decently-powered laptop with an awesome display.

JESTER, how much does yours weigh? And congrats..btw.

2 year old Toshiba Satellite 5105-S701

P4m 1.8 Ghz512 MB Ram60 GB HDDVD/CD64 MB nVidia geForce2Dolby 5.1 digital sound, RCA outputs, harman kardon speakersremote control, built in wifi, lcd pad mouse

Lots of bells and whistles, and still pretty comparable to what's for sale out there, 2 years later (save for processor speed). But then that seems to be pretty typical of any Toshiba product you buy (if you get their top of the line when it first comes out)

Still wish it weighed less and had centrino these days though..

I love toshiba laptops.... They seem so much thinner, lighter, and just better than the competition..

About 4 years ago I had an old satellite and I loved it. However my brother used it in bed one time and it overheated (blocked the cooling fan), and fried the motherboard or something... Right now I have a compaq, and I dont like it nearly as well..... Its had to have 2 hard drives replaced, and the battery lasts about 20 mins... I hear that if you dont ues the battery very often on those things (having them plugged in for a long time) then it sorta kills the battery...

I remember hearing that if you dont ues the battery at least once a month its best to take it out of the computer.. I wish I would have done that because my battery is now pretty much shot.....

I also like the sony VAIO laptops, but I think all of sony's products (except for displays of any kind and a few other things) are overpriced and no better than the competition. Right now I have a 3 year old sony viao desktop and its great (cant even remember specs but its enough to run all the games I have)..... Sony monitor that is god knows how old but it still looks great...

Ive been browsing ebay (I live there, its my home away from home from NICO), and you can get some REALLY good deals on ebay laptops with warranties...

Dell Latitude D800, older processor (1.6 GHz Pentium Mobile), but lots of RAM (1 GByte). Best feature is the 15.4" screen that is wide-screen! Resolution is 1920 x 1200. Awesome display for DVD movies on my business trips! Also has built-in 802.11a/b/g for Internet connections.

I love the iBooks, stepbrother has one. But he spilled crap on it and well, you know how that goes. Used prices on them are still too high so I guess I'll have to wait a while.

Had an Inspiron 8000, some Thinkpads, a Toshiba, a Gateway, an Apple Powerbook... so far my favorites have been the Toshiba and the Powerbook.

If I was gonna buy a laptop today, it would be an eMachines or an Apple Powerbook G4.

Werd. I've had a series of Toshiba laptops...my favorite line being the Portege. So small, so smooth. My only complaint with this one now is the short battery life and the weight (was more of a desktop replacement really - should have thought about that rather than looking at just the specs.

As for the overheating thing...yeah...seems like you have to watch out for that with Toshibas (probably with any other laptop too, I just know a couple other people who have overheated their Toshibas). I left mine in my backpack after shutting the lid one day (assuming it would power down, as I thought I had it set) and well, after my backpack felt like it was on fire I pulled the laptop out with the fan going like crazy trying to cool itself down. I gave it about two days rest after it cooled down and there doesn't seem to have been any adverse effects. My sister did the same thing with her laptop as your brother did with yours but it turned out fine (except for the whole spilling water on the keyboard thing...but that was..."user error"). My other friend overheated hers in bed and it ceased working. Apparently those extended warranties cover that type of thing though...LOL.

I'm with you though. Had I had it to go over again, I probably would have gotten one of those featherweight Sony VAIO laptops. Sure, they're a little expensive, but you really can't beat the features you get in such a tiny package.

Had to buy a game or two. And I am getting ready to go find me a good carring case.

Still loading crap on this, and i got it Friday. Still have to put on photoshop, not like I can use it worth a darn. Have to put my printer driver and kodak software for my camera.

The only thing is I don't have my internet accelerator on here, so surfing is way to slow. Probally just not mess much on the web until I go back to work tommorow.

Oops, I missed this. :-)

I have a PowerBook G4, 1.5 Ghz, 1 gigabyte of DDR RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics with 64 MB of RAM (not a gamer though), 15" widescreen, SuperDrive (CD/DVD burner), all the goodies . . . USB 2.0, FireWire 800, Bluetooth, you name it. :-) OS X 10.3 for now, might try Linux on it at some point, not really sure . . . plenty of other computers around here with Linux, and OS X just kicks *** for a desktop kind of OS.

Oh, and IBM and Dell Latitude laptops kick *** on the PC side . . . or the dark side, depending on your point of view. ;)
