So I recently bought a 1997 base model kouki. I had a 93 hatch a few years ago until it exploded. haha. Any way I am deployed and want to start making changes as soon as I return to the states. My question is Should I get new wheels and tires, 300z brakes in front including new m/c and braided lines, Stance coilovers, and a 5 speed swap. Or should I just go straight for the sr swap. I am currently stationed in Ca. But that is not an issue as I am in the military. I have already purchased front and rear strut tower braces and a aluminum radiator. I thought of boosting my ka but its already got 180000 miles on it. I will put up pics of my kouki soon. It was an old couples car so it is dead stock. And I mean stock. Tape deck and all. Haha. What mods will be best to start out with?

Nothing kouki's are perfect lol. Just kidding I would go for coilovers first. You never regret coilovers. They make driving more pleasurable and makes the car look way better. But that is just me. Do what makes you happy.

Hey JSDEVILDOG29,Do you self the favor and purchase reliability mods first.Fix or replace anything that "might" be an issue. Any sqeek, tab or any funny noise take care of. Do your regular schedule maintenance (ex serpentine belts, timing belts, fuel filter etc).

Once your all up to par...I would go with suspension upgrades, then brakes.

Haha. True while S-14 Sylvias and even usdm se and les are really nice. Mine is very plain. haha. It is emmaculant in that it is clean as it was when new but no side skirts no cruise control. lol. etc. I was leaning towards the wheels and suspension. I want to order a all new bushings. However I dont want to replace them all and the replace them again as I upgrade the suspension piece by piece.

Coils, bushings, brakes, wheels tires, 5 speed(unless going sr).

Then sr if you really want, or find a ka with less miles and boost that.

do all the basic maintainance then slam it , bushing kit , and 5 speed swap.

if you are planning on doing the sr swap just do the 5 speeed while you are swapping motors

No prob. I like both motors actually. They both have strengths and weaknesses. I am actually having a hard time deciding on whether to rebuild my Ka and boost it or to dump it and get the sr. haha. I think both are very good motors with different strengths and weaknesses. I like the huge aftermarket for the sr. But if somthing mundane goes out it might be hard to find parts. The ka you can get any stock part easy but it seems harder to find aftermarket parts. I almost want to get another 93 hatch just to do one of each.

Don't worry about not having side skirts and all the frills. I have a loaded 98 LE with the titanium leather, but you have a slikk top... So in that aspect I am jealous. lol

True. Its only a base model for now. lol. I already have a din dvd reciever with nav and back up camera on the way for it. lol. I just hate the automatic. It seems like 90% of koukis were made with autos.

Yeah there seems to have been a inclination to make more automatics. Since i have a LE i understand it more cuz it is luxury but with a base I would be a little annoyed. Especially if that's the only non standard option the car was given.. Not to bad to swap though.

Its got the convienence package with the alloys and intermitent wipers. haha. It was owened by a very old couple since 97. It came with a carfax that showed every service down to the tire rotations and oil changes at the dealership. I got a killer deal. I even had it shipped to CA from NJ.

coilovers first and foremost. IF you swap the KA for an SR, definitely do a 5 speed swap at the same time since youre already tearing it apart. By the way, my older brother was in Dubai. Not sure if yall have ever been stationed there but just thought I would throw that out

that "98" zenki up there is most likely a zenki. unless the theives stole the gauge cluster and the seats and side panels too and they were all replaced.

^^^ hol^^y crap I bought my car from that dealership. I don't recommendn"allen autos" at all though, that salesman is really shady. My car had a check engine light, but I didn't know about it cause the light bulb was taken out. And he didn't tell me that it was an auto before!

So since your car was throwing codes (being an automatic before), have you had problems getting it smogged in CA, or did you get the codes cleared somehow?

Edit: I just realized you have an SR in there...nevermind :P
