Post

Well, after several years of being a Jeep fanatic, I gave into my fiance and bought her a 1997 Pathfinder SE that's in good shape and only has 85,000 miles on it. Didn't steal it, but didn't get bent over, either. I just dropped a new set of Michelins on it today and after driving it, realized it needs new struts. Any suggestions on anything cheap? I'm also going to change out the trans filter and fluid to see if that clears up a shifting problem it has-sometimes before the motor and trans is good and hot, it will rev all the way up to 4,000 rpm before shifting. On the way to work this morning, it hovered around 3,400 @ 70 mph for about 7 miles before shifting and dropping down to about 2,400 rpm. Picked up the filter and fluid after work today and I'll get to it in the next day or so. So other than that, it's just a few minor things, like trying to figure out how to replace the tweeters in the pillars since they are blown-best way anyone?

Also, what other things should I look for to fail/need replaced? I've done a little reading and understand that I'll need to change the timing belt at 100,000, right? Anything else? Thanks all!! I'd put up pics but it's just a lowly green stocker.

Edit:Two more issues that I forgot about- when the engine is running at idle, I get a while from the motor-sounds like one of the pulleys? But when I turn the heater on, it goes away-anyone else ever have this? Second, the drum brakes on the rear just don't cut it for me-are there any rear-wheel disc brake conversion kits out there? Thanks!

Welcome to NICO!!!

Sounds like your on the right track. you could also be looking at a TPS issue... however, if its staying in 3rd gear it will do that until its warmed up, that is how nissan trans are designed....

Another member on here replaced his shocks with monroe sensatracs' and liked them... Theyre a little cheaper than OEM...
