I think on this car they don't look bad. Maybe a little bit of back light in the way of painted brakes ect. would help. I have seen a couple of black chrome ones I have liked but for the most part I guess I agree with you on this one.
On some cars certain things 'pop' up close and can be appreciated. For example at a car show there was this 5 window coupe that looked 'ok'. Up close however things came into perspective. For one it had about the most finely detailed etching on the glass I have ever seen, absolutely gorgeous. On the paint was the same basic designs in extremely fine detail, right down to the undercarriage. Up close it 'popped', farther away it was just another nice 5 window coupe.
