I found a place in Australia that can make keys from the codes on the inside of the glovebox...some locks have a 4 digit code stamped on the side of them as well...or on the face of the ignition lock...check here to identify:

these are good for the (5601 - 5900) and (1-5001 - 1-5150) series codes only...
if I remember right, others are available as well...

For my 1971 PL521 Truck he used blank #231 and he cut me 2 keys to my code for less than $20.00! Work great and didn't take long at all!

hmmm...that's a real problem....not!
Personally here's what I would do...
go here:
http://www.keys4classics.com/html/Datsun_early_ID.html
and see which series your lock is and if it falls into one of the catagories on the bottom right of the page...
it looks like there are only 3 different blanks that it could be....heck you could buy all 3 and it would still be cheaper than a locksmith!
or email him the codes and your info and vin, he should be able to get you hooked up!
